A pair of English ironstone Imari pattern conservatory seats each of hexagonal barrel shape the top decorated with a pierced Chinese coin motif within iron red and white Greek key borders above convex side panels decorated with flower mon and lantern shaped devices two sides with pierced and overlapping Chinese coin devices in green enamel on a cobalt blue ground highlighted in yellow enamel with with flowers and trailing leaves 52cm high mid 19th century one seat with slight loss to top piercing Provenance: Removed from a house in Seaford now demolished which also had an English ironstone fireplace of the same period See Goddens Guide to Masons China and the Ironstone Wares by Geoffrey A Godden p156 for a similar seat as exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition
