The following 10 lots from perhaps the best collection of important early, mainly London & other maker`s, rods to have come to the market. ROD: Ex rare Ustonson Makers to His Majesty Temple Bar London, 4 piece valise travel rod, sections approx 27" long, the butt with swollen handle, pinned front brass collar, hand made reel rings over recessed reel seat, fully engraved butt cap, brass ferrules, top 3 sections black washed, the rod lacks rings but due to its rarity and importance is worthy of refurbishment. Onesimus Ustonson c1760-1855 is the first fully researched London maker with Royal warrant, few of his reels are ever seen and even fewer rods have came to the market, to our knowledge this is the only Ustonson valise rod in existence outside the example held in Kew Palace forming part of the King George 1V fishing tackle outfit.
