Lot 1119
A set of six William IV rosewood dining chairs, with bowed top rails, shaped stiles, drop in seat and raised on turned and stylised tulip carved front legs (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: These chairs are in generally very good condition. There are no loose joints and none of the legs have had any repairs. The side rails are all in good order. The top rails are all in good condition without the usual breaks. Two of the back rails are slightly loose at the right hand facing joint and three of the remaining chairs have been re-glued on the same joint. It is clear looking at the two chairs with the loose joint that there has been a small amount of shrinkage causing the joints to spring. The chairs are good quality rosewood and heavy.
Lot 1337
A Regency mahogany longcase clock by Muirhead of Glasgow, with carved pediment, circular dial, two-train movement, subsidiary seconds and date dial, with rectangular trunk door flanked by fluted column corners. Width 198 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The hood is in very good condition. The door is not warped. The seat board is clearly original and the clock is not a marriage. The silvered brass dial is a little dirty as is the silvering in places. The movement is all present and correct and appears to operate when weight is applied to the going train. We have the weights and pendulum and there is a winding key. The trunk door is flat and not warped. The trunk itself is in extremely good condition as is the base and feet which are original.
Lot 1206
A mahogany musicians chair, with octagonal stuffover seat, turned and stylised tulip carved column raised on three short bun feet. CONDITION REPORT: We think that this chair has originally been a stool and that the chair back has been added at a later date. The construction would suggest this. The lyre in the chair back has been added. There are several cracks and glue marks visible to the lyre. The upholstery is in good order. The centre column is in good condition but there are veneer losses around the crossbanding to the base. The feet are original and in good order.
Lot 1141
A Victorian mahogany gentleman's armchair, with deep buttoned back and upholstered seat with foliate patterned material and raised on cabriole legs terminating in castors (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This chair is in generally good condition. It has clearly been recently reupholstered and should the colour scheme be suitable it does not require any reupholstery. The material is in very good clean condition and the springing and deep buttoning are in very good order. The chair is structurally solid. There is an old repair to the top left hand corner of the hoop back but this is structurally very sound. The front legs and front rail are in good order and the castors are original. The rear legs are structurally sound. The right hand rear leg has had a small old repair at the foot but this is not a significant issue. The castors are original. The chair could be used in its current state without the need for any repairs or restoration.
Lot 1376
An Edwardian inlaid mahogany small settee, the back with pierced splats, the seat and arms upholstered in a foliate patterned material and raised on shaped legs. Width 107 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The settee is in generally very good, original condition. There is no damage to the back or splats. The remainder of the frame is also in good condition and there are no repairs to the legs. The upholstery is a little worn along the front edge but serviceable. The upholstered panels on the arms are in good condition. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
Lot 1244
A Windsor style broad arm rocking chair, typical form, with pierced splat back and solid seat. CONDITION REPORT: This rocking chair is in extremely good condition with no issues. It is structurally very sound with no loose joints. There are some minor scratches to the seat surface. There are minor scuffs around the edges of the arm ends but no real problems. The chair could be used or resold in its current state without the need for any repair or restoration.
Lot 1355
An 18th century Dutch marquetry side chair, with splat back, drop in seat, serpentine front rail and raised on cabriole legs with shell carved knees (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally very sound with no loose joints. It is in original condition but does have some issues. The splat back is generally in good condition with no significant damage, no repairs and no restoration. The stiles equally have not had any repair. Most of the inlay is intact with only very minor losses. The font rail has minor losses to the marquetry as do the serpentine sides. The cabriole legs have minor losses to the marquetry and various old scuffs and the front right hand leg has an old crack above the stretcher. This is solid and there is no movement. The right hand facing rear connecting stretcher is a later replacement in our opinion. The chair has numerous woodworm holes to all areas. In our opinion the woodworm is long gone and has not caused significant structural damage but is clearly visible.
Lot 1318
A Victorian walnut gentleman's chair, with foliate scroll carved moulded showframe, deep buttoned back and arms and stuffover seat upholstered in blue velvet and with foliate carved cabriole legs terminating in castors (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: - The chair is in generally very good order. The showframe is in good condition with no loose joints. The front legs are all in good order with the original castors. The rear legs are in good condition with no issues and have the original castors. The upholstery is generally sound. It is a little faded in places but perfectly serviceable. The seat springs are all in very good condition. The braiding is a little faded and slightly loose in places. There are minor scuffs on the front legs but no significant issues.
Lot 1271
A Continental walnut framed armchair, with needlework back, seat and arms and raised on cabriole legs. CONDITION REPORT: Very good condition with no structural issues. No repairs to any of the legs. The woolwork upholstery is in reasonable order although the seat base is a little lumpy and not particularly comfortable. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

A pair of red leather upholstered deep buttoned wing armchairs, in the Queen Anne style, studded and raised on short cabriole legs. CONDITION REPORT: Both chairs are structurally very sound. All legs are in good condition with no breaks, no damage, no repairs and no restoration. The leather upholstery is generally very good with no rips, tears or holes. Both chairs have scuffs to the top left and right hand corners of the rear back panel and the odd paint splash from decorating. There is however no real issues with the upholstery which is not significantly worn. The chairs could be used as they are without the need for anything other than a light clean. Width across arms 87 cm, height to top of back 107 cm, depth of seat cushion 54 cm, width of cushion 49 cm, height to top of leg 21 cm.
Lot 1421
A George III oak longcase clock, Henry Foster, Brampton, with silvered brass dial with date aperture and thirty hour movement, the case with rounded quarter column corners and canted angles to the base. Height 215 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The seat board is original and the cheeks have not been built up. The mask around the dial fits. We therefore do not think that this clock is a marriage. The movement is currently ticking away and appears to be striking correctly. The date dial appears to be connected. The dial is in very good order and looks to have been re-silvered at some time within the last 10 years. The trunk door is not warped and the case is in generally very good condition. The clock could be used in its current condition without the need for any repair or restoration.

Thomas Jones Barker (British, 1815-1882) Portrait of Miss Chisholm of Stirches House, Hawick, in the Scottish Borders, on her grey Highland pony 'Punch', with her black retriever beside her signed lower left "Thos. Jones Barker" oil on canvas 120 x 85cm (47 x 33in) Other Notes: Stirches House, Hawick, was built by the Chisholm family in 1503. It is now a care home for the elderly. The family also owned Chisholm House in the Scottish borders which was built in 1752 and is set in an estate of nearly 200 acres. It was once the seat of the head of the southern branch of Clan Chisholm but went out of the family possession in the early part of the 20th Century. Thomas Jones Barker is known as a portrait and military history painter. His first work to be exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts was a scene from the Napoleonic Wars. He went on to paint, from the battlefields, the Franco Prussian War of 1870. He was a prolific portrait painter, in particular of Scottish famillies, but was also commissioned to paint Queen Victoria. His work can be found in public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery. Unlined canvas. A few canvas patches on the reverse of the bottom half of canvas, mending old damages. Canvas is slightly slack, stretcher bar marks starting to show, most notably horizontally across middle of painting. A few undulations to the canvas. paint layer is stable. Areas of retouching, including to the sitter's face and dress. Varnish is glossy and even. Losses to decoration moulding on frame. Unlined. Two old repaired tears. Old gilt frame has chips and losses.

There are expected signs of old restoration, but all in useable condition.

An Astley Cooper correctional child's chair, a painted upright high back chair with cross splat back, painted line decoration with footrest, on stretchered legs 110 x 31cm (43 x 12in) Literature: Wells (Calvin), Weaver, Tailor or Shoemaker, reprinted from Medical & Biological Illustration, published January 1967, vol XVII, no 1, page 44. Fig.7 These chairs are named after the famous surgeon, Sir Astley Paston Cooper (1768-1841), who advocated their use by children with deformed spines. The narrow seat, tall back and negligable divergence of the legs ensured that the child had to sit as erect as possible to avoid overbalancing the chair. An old split to the foot rest and some wear to the original paint surface
