A 'Chippendale' mahogany elbowchair, the carved and interlaced back splat combining a gothic lancet shape with rococo ribands, the arms with shaped undersides, ending in scroll finials, over a stuffed drop-in seat, the plain underframe with square sectioned filleting and splayed back legs joined by a stretcher. Circa 1760. Height 96cm Width 63cm Depth 60cm * In publishing his "Directory", Chippendale saw the work as more than a catalogue of his own works. He foresaw and welcomed it's use as a copy book. "Upon the whole, I have given here no Design but what may be executed with Advantage by the Hands of a skilful Workman."
An Irish handwoven damask linen banqueting cloth twelve yards in length. Provenance Dunecht House. Early 20th Century by Walpole Brothers woven with trailing roses, thistles and clover, one corner embroidered with a "C" and a Viscount's coronet. 36 feet or 1198cm in length. Dunecht House. Aberdeenshire, was purchased by Lord Cowdray in 1909. (He gifted Dunecht and its 9000 acres to his wife Annie and from 1919, following her transformations of the interiors, it became their principal seat)
