Charles Heathcote Tatham's (1772-1842) stool design is inspired by a marble classical Roman seat, illustrated in his Etchings Representing the Best Examples of Ancient Ornamental Architecture Drawn from the Originals in Rome and other parts of Italy, during the years 1794, 1795 and 1796, 1799, pl. 77. Tatham had been encouraged by his employer and mentor, Henry Holland (1745-1806), to study and collect antique fragments and sculpture in Italy. The scrolled ends mounted with rosettes, the fluted legs and curved feet clearly relate to Tatham's stool. A Knoll Studio Barcelona chair and ottoman, designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe, polished steel frame both with stamped mark and faux engraved signature,with padded cream leather cushions, the chair 73 cm high x 75 cm wide , the seat 43 cm high.The leather surface is good but could do with gentle wipe over, the seats don't have any holes of scratches.The frames sit square and still have plenty of spring and don't show any signs of rust or tarnish.

Charles & Ray Eames designed lounge chair and ottoman( No. 670 and 67)1 with mahogany faced laminate on an aluminium frame with black bonded leather upholstery. 84 cm wide x 104 cm deep x 79 cm overall height, 39 cm height to the seat front (the chair)Private estateFirst commissioned by Herman Miller from the renowned designers Charles & Ray Eames and released in1956 and rapidly became the epitome of American mid-century design.Both chair and ottoman are unmarked in the casting or with applied labels as to makers.The bonded leather has cracked and perished but doesn't seem to have any holes.The chair is difficult to rotate on its pillar but does with some force.

Rear stretcher with possible historic repair. Bracing bar applied to the rear of the chair. Very minor evidence of worm in the seat boards, with small chip to front right hand corner. Otherwise general scuffs, marks and light gouges commensurate with age and use.

* A 17th century oak Wainscot chair, the architectural top rail over a back panel centred with an arched foliate motif below winged mask spandrels, the down swept arms upon ring turned cylindrical supports over the board seat and conforming turned front legs, plain rear legs of rectangular section united by peripheral cross stretchers, seat height 47cm, 116cm H x 62cm W x 57cm DCondition report:  Dowl apertures to top vacant.Some play in the chair structure. 8cm chip to the front right hand corner of the seat, with repair to opposite side. Very minor historic worm to the feet and cross stretchers.5cm chip to rear left hand foot. 14cm split to rear of right hand upright. General marks, scuffs, and fading commensurate of use.

Minor splits to rear splats. General dull patina to all chairs. All seat pads possibly later replacements.General minor chips, scuffs, marks and wear, commensurate with age and use.

Repairs at both arm joints, with a split above the left hand side arm joint. Replaced blocks to the underside, extensive historic worm to underside, although chair feel firm with little to no movement in structure. Second chair: Iron bracket repairs to top corners with multiple splits beneath. Some minor losses to fretwork and to rear of fretwork. Fading to back of the chair. Historic worm to underside and rear rail.Some play in both arm joints.

* A 16th century oak Wainscot chair, the carved foliate and scroll top rail above a panel back centred with an incised lozenge and initialled ‘P D 1539’, over the board seat upon turned baluster front legs and plain rear legs united by peripheral cross stretchers, 103cm high, seat height 44cmCondition report:  5cm chip to rear left hand upright behind the crest rail. Further minor chips and splits in same area.Blocks to both rear feet. Slat running behind the board seat, indicting some level of restoration. Splice repairs to both sides at the joint with the seat rails. Restoration to top of left hand side arm support. General marks, gouges, and wear commensurate with age.

* A 19th century ladder back and rush seated elbow chair, the out swept arms upon turned supports enclosing the envelope rush seat, 98cm high (at fault) Condition report: Extensive rubbing wear to both arms. Glue residue visible at several joints, indicating a level of restoration. Evidence of historic worm, particularly in cross stretchers and legs. Seat appears to have been repositioned with dowl apertures. Chair joints appear to be firm with little to no joint movement.

Some minor repairs to rear stick back. Minor evidence of historic worm to cross stretcher. Little to no play in the joints. Wear seen throughout.

Nicolas-Louis Mariette was a relative of Claude-Louis Mariette, who was received master cabinetmaker in 1765.Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions, old chips and splits comensurate with age and use. some old repairs. Wear and some losses, including to gilt gesso surface in areas, There is more chipping to the gilt gesso surface to the reverse of the chair overall. Of solid useable structure overall, however there is some minor movement when weight is put onto the chair. The joints may require tightening , there is some division between some joints (see images) . The loose seat cushion is in good condition and is a later replacemenNo noticeable holes or elements lacking to the caning and has likely been later replaced, the caning of the seat has a depressed 'dip' in one area of the seat. The gilding has been sympathetically refreshed in some areas but maintains its antique appearance. The plugged holes to the front seat rail are likely where there were holes to secure a previous/ original seat. AN IMPORTANT AND RARE GEORGE III DRAWING ROOM SUITE ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM & JOHN LINNELL, CIRCA 1780Comprising twelve open armchairs and two sofaseach sofa, 102cm high, 163cm wide, 68cm deepeach armchair 97cm high, 63cm wide, 54cm deep Provenance: Believed to have been acquired by Thomas Austen Treffry (1782-1850) and in-situ at Place, Fowey, Cornwall by 1832. Purchased: Bonham's, The Provenance Sale, Fine English Furniture, Works of Art and Sculpture, London New Bond Street, 3 November 2010, lot 12 for £70,000 hammerTwo sketches by John Linnell, dating to 1770-1775, for an oval-back armchair and a settee, that share close similarities to the present lot can be seen in the collection at the V&A, accession numbers E.123-1929 & E.82-1929. Condition Report: Wear, marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits and chips. Some old losses including several patera details to the tops of legs. Various old repairs. One leg of one sofa with cracks through the uppermost terminal. Some old cracks to elements of other parts of the suite but all main elements are intact. Various wear and loss to paint and gesso surfaces throughout. Areas of the gesso and paint are fragile and lifting/ coming away. Signs of old worm, the immediate visible signs are mainly sporadic and visible commonly to the seat rails, upper parts of the rear legs and uprights at the base of the backs (see additional images available via email). There is also old worm damage in other areas and in some areas fragmentary loss as a result. All chairs and sofas have later screwed in supporting blocks to the corners of the seat rails. The front seat rail of each armchair has also had an element drilled out in two positions and a later screw put in to join the front seat rail with the top of each adjacent front leg and strengthen. Most chairs and sofas are of solid structure overall. Some joints are loose to a degree so are likely to require 'tightening'. The central underlying rail of one sofa appears original or may be an old replacement, the rail to the other sofa is not shaped and appears to be a later replacement. The casters to the sofas are likely later associated. The 'gadrooned' cast metal detail to the tops of the cappings of the front legs is not present from the cappings to the rear legs. Later re-upholstered. Various losses, repairs, discoloration to the upholstery. We cannot guarantee the originality or condition of timber or materials concealed beneath upholstery. Old worm damage, repairs or replacements may be hidden by the paint. In some positions, the construction of the underlying frame is visible where paint has been lost. The surface paint visible to the exterior now is very likely all or largely re-painted since the original.
