Reverend Peter Simon, after Salvator Rosa THE ROMAN GENERAL, BELISARIUS Pen and ink and grey wash 38 x 28cm The inscription attached to the back board reads: ‘is presented by Mr William Ince to Mr John Henry Dixon of Wakefield as a mark of esteem and respect. 9th December 1869. It was the work of Mr Ince’s relative the Rev’d Peter Simon, 39 years vicar of Whitkirk near Leeds and chaplain to the first Viscount Irwin he died 14th June bur’d 17th June 1779.....The picture was copied by Mr Simon from an oil painting at Temple Newsam, the seat of Lord Irwin’.
Three silver mounted bottle stoppers, the first surmounted with a gentleman hunter and gun dog, the second with a fox and game bird and the third with a jockey and seat. Hallmarked Birmingham 1998, 2002 and 2007, with two different sponsors` marks A.J. Poole and W W. The largest measuring 10 cm. Condition: The three bottle stoppers are in good overall condition, each does display some general scratches, marks and finger print with surface tarnishing. The hallmarks are clear and legible.
