A club fender, with leather upholstered corners, painted metal supports and oak plinth base. Internal measurement 208 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The external width of the oak base is 225 cm. The internal measurement is 208 cm, width of fender including seat 229 cm, depth of each return 47 cm. The metalwork is wrought iron with some form of painted or lacquered finish. The fender has no great age and may only be 20-30 years old.
A set of two arm and eight single Edwardian rosewood Hepplewhite style dining chairs, bearing plaque by S. & H. Jewell, High Holborn, London. CONDITION REPORT: The armchairs are both in structurally very good order with no loose joints, damage or repairs. One is faded particularly on the back and sides. It has clearly been in the sun. Six of the eight single chairs are structurally sound and in generally good order. They are the same timber as the two armchairs. One of the six is a little faded but not as much as the armchair already mentioned. The two remaining single chairs are not rosewood. They are the same pattern as the other six but are probably mahogany. They both have the same S & H Jewell plaques on the seat. They are however less good quality and although they are structurally sound are a little more tatty than the remaining chairs. They have both lost some of the surface polish. All seats are in good order with only minor marks and stains.
A pair of Edwardian mahogany Bergere elbow chairs, in the Adam style, raised on turned tapered fluted front legs. CONDITION REPORT: One chair is structurally very sound with no loose joints and no problems with the frames. The other chair is also generally in good order but there has been a break just below the bottom vase turning on the right hand facing arm. The arm is secure but the break is visible. The canework is in our opinion original. Both backs are fairly tight and have very minimal breaks to individual strands of cane. They are serviceable. The Bergere to the seat of the chair with the damage arm is in generally good condition and is tight at the edges. There are minimal breaks. The cane has stretched and when pressed in the centre from underneath can be pushed upwards by approximately 3 cm. The second chair seat is in slightly less good condition. It is serviceable but there are approximately eight breaks to individual strands of cane along the front edge. Again there is the same amount of travel from the centre of the seat when pressed from underneath.
A late 19th/early 20th century Art Nouveau wing chair, with stuffover back, seat and arms and with exposed mahogany showframe with stylised inlay and raised on castors. Width at widest point 67 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The wooden showframe is in generally good condition. The piece appears to be structurally very sound. We can see no evidence of any or restoration to the exposed timber frame. The piece does look to have been repolished at some point. The upholstery is not in particularly good order and the chair really needs stripping down reupholstering. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
