Late 19th-early 20th century AD. A wood-framed upholstered rocking chair in stained and varnished beech (or pine?); the frame and platform with turned stretchers and elements, reeding and carved motifs; the rocking mechanism fitted with coil springs; later brown velvet upholstery to seat and back. 110 x 65 x 55cm (43 1/2 x 25 1/2 x 21 1/2). Property of an Essex gentleman; acquired 1960s-1980s. [No Reserve]. Fine condition.

19TH CENTURY COALBROOKDALE STYLE CAST IRON GARDEN SEAT having cherub cresting over an overall design of nasturtium leaves and flower heads, scrolled end supports with scrolled feet. Lacks wooden slats. 127 x 70deep, 86cm high. Registration number to the back: 8806B, otherwise unmarked. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Surface rust but no obvious significant damage or losses. No wooded slats.

ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGES JACOB: A FAUTEUIL D'OFFICIER with a broad dished leather upholstered back with round headed brass border, above a similar overstuffed seat with projecting and scrolling front legs, 32.5" high x 26" wide, circa 1800. See illustration Similar examples of this most unusual chair have been offered for sale by Sotheby's in their auctions on 13th December 1994 and 7th December 2010. Jacob's stamp is found on a similar armchair from the collection of Prince Murat sold at Hotel Drouot on 14th June 1983.
