Repainted areas throughout including large area to seat, below sleeve, and to bureau. Some previous revarnishing and restoration throughout. Overall in need of restoration. Some chips to frame.

Lot 374

A late Victorian upholstered armchair on turned and ringed front legs to castors by Howard of London, the rear leg stamped "Howard & Sons, Berners St - 13473-901", the castors stamped "Howard & Sons London" CONDITION REPORTS Chair non original loose pale cream self patterned covers, fabric underneath with some water staining and damage all over especially to seat cover and arm rests, the ends of both arm rests have patches, fabric is very dirty and stained all over with some rips throughout. To rear leg - assorted pin and screw holes, various evidence of repairs and obvious signs of wear, section of leg has been off. Hessian bottom is becoming loose. Front brass caps to castors stamped "Howard & Sons London". Front legs have been knocked, rubbed and chipped and are all over worn. Generally chair very worn with general wear and tear throughout, and in need of sympathetic restoration.

An early 19th Century yew wood and elm Windsor type wheel and stick back elbow chair attributed to Buckinghamshire circa 1800-1840, the shaped seat on turned supports united by a crinoline stretcher, 102 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Width of seat approx. 47 cm. Chair overall appears to have had quite a lot of previous repairs and replacement sections, centre back splat may possibly be a later replacement and/or refurbished and has much less wear than the arms. Arms with various splits and stains, bentwood area of the back also with various splits and stains, seat may be later and/or has been refurbished and re-varnished, both back legs appear to be later and back right leg is in a similar wood to that of the seat, some old woodworm holes, two front legs appear to be early and one of the turned stretchers appears to be early, the other straight turned stretcher appears to be a later replacement, various repairs to the arms, and inset sections.

An early 19th Century Thames Valley beech and elm wheel and stick back Windsor type elbow chair, the shaped seat on turned and ringed legs united by an H-stretcher, attributed to Buckinghamshire circa 1800-1840, 119 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Width of seat approx. 52.5 cm, depth of seat approx. 45 cm. Chair overall with quite a lot of old woodworm holes and woodworm damage including to arms, legs and bentwood back area, overall with wear and patination conducive with age and use, and some repairs, but generally appears in tidy condition.

An early 19th Century Thames Valley yew wood and elm stick back Windsor type elbow chair with unusual fretwork carved back splat, the shaped seat on turned and ringed legs united by a crinoline stretcher, attributed to Buckinghamshire circa 1800-1840, 110 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Width of seat approx. 54 cm, depth of seat approx. 47.5 cm. Chair overall with wear and patination conducive with age and use, quite a lot of splits throughout and some repairs, several splits across the seat although these do appear to be stable, appears to have a nice patination, various splits, chips and losses to legs (please see photos for examples).

An early 19th Century Thames Valley yew wood and elm Windsor type arm chair, the arms on baluster turned and ringed supports to the shaped seat on turned and ringed legs united by a crinoline stretcher, attributed to Buckinghamshire circa 1800-1840, 101 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Good colour and patination, wear, splits, knocks and bumps conducive with age and use including large split to top of bentwood back section, various splits to arms, some large chunks and chips from legs and feet, one of the straight stretchers is a later replacement, generally with various repairs and some replacement sections but overall appears to be a good period chair. Width of seat approx. 49.5 cm, depth of seat approx. 40.5 cm.

Lot 460

A pair of Elizabeth II 1953 Coronation chairs with upholstered back and seat on an oak frame CONDITION REPORTS There is no plaque, but they are both branded to the seat frame, and bear impressed date "1953" (one date is indistinct and there appear to have been several attempts to impress the numbers), an impressed mark to one of the brackets to underside (see photos) to each chair. One chair has a faintly impressed maker's name "North & Sons of West Wycombe" to the seat frame. Two small screw holes to the underside of the frame to each chair. Some movement to joints. Both with some wear and scuffs, and one chair leg with quite pronounced scratches/scuffs. Fabric with some wear, dirt and deposits, and one seat with a small burn mark. Gimp (braid) coming loose at one end. Some regluing to the gimp. Generally, however, condition appears reasonably good.
