An Edwardian inlaid mahogany armchair, with upholstered seat raised on turned legs with stretchers. Width across arms 55 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This chair is in structurally very good condition. The surface of the chair is a little scratched on the top rail and the rear legs. There are also some marks to the front legs and stretchers but no significant issues. Both front & rear legs have circular dowels adjacent to the seat. These are probably part of the original construction but we cannot be entirely sure. The seat cover is a little marked but serviceable. There are no loose joints and no evidence of any woodworm.
An early 19th century child's rocking chair, with commode seat. Width 37 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The seat top is not hinged but has been. The hinges are missing. There are losses to the areas where the hinges have been on the seat side. The seat top has been broken in half. There are four holes in the seat which appear to be later. The main body of the chair seems to be original. The pine corner blocks to the underside of the rear of the seat are probably later replacements. There are screws to the underside rear and side edges of the back of the seat which are probably later. The chair has numerous scuffs, scratches, small timber losses and marks particularly to the sides and the top edges of the sides. Our images should show these.
A pair of bone inlaid ebonised armchairs, in the Italian style, each with drop in seat and raised on turned and carved legs with stretchers (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both chairs are structurally sound with very little movement at the joints. There are small pieces of bone stringing missing from the panelled backs but no significant losses. The same comments apply to the bone on the seat rails. To the left of the leg of one cavalier on one back a square of bone appears to have been repainted in white. The seats are in good condition. There do not appear to be any repairs to the legs or stretchers.
A late 19th century oak metamorphic step chair. CONDITION REPORT: The chair does not have any replacement parts. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The condition is generally good and the chair is serviceable. Whilst the chair is structurally very sound there are two later long Phillips screws from the back of the stile through to the top frame of the seat. Whilst effective these are unsightly and should be removed and countersunk. The top of the seat when in chair position has a small 4 cm timber fracture approx 2 cm back from the front hinge. There is no movement here but this is visible. The hinges are original. The woodwork is generally a little dirty but there are no serious condition issues. As stated the piece is serviceable and the only real issue are the two screws already mentioned.
An oak monks bench, with tilt top and box seat raised on short bun feet. Width 91 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This bench is in generally very good condition with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. There are some minor surface scratches and marks as one would expect but no significant issues.
