HOPKINS ANTHONY: (1937- ) Welsh Actor, Academy Award winner. Small series of four T.Ls.S., Anthony Hopkins, including one signed by a secretary on his behalf, each one page, 8vo, London, January 1986 - December 1987, all to Miss. Kathleen Kennedy, a piano teacher. Hopkins largely writes concerning music and his piano, stating, in part, 'I am, at the moment, fixed up with a piano teacher but I am not quite sure how it is going to work out, so may I keep hold of your letter and if needs be get in contact with you' (21st January 1986), 'Thank you very much indeed for thinking to send me a copy of your booklet; I have looked through it, but as yet haven't got round to 'doing' it.....at the moment I don't seem to have much time for anything other than the National Theatre! The piano has had to take very much of a back seat...' (8th June 1987), 'Thank you so much for the Exercises.....I am very pleased to have them and they are more than useful.' (30th September 1987), and in the final letter (signed by his secretary) Hopkins confirms having booked a seat for Kennedy at a theatre and provides instructions for collecting the ticket. Together with Albert Finney (1936-2019) English Actor. T.L.S., Albert Finney, one page, 8vo, n.p. (Sussex), 1st November 1989, to Miss. Kathleen Kennedy. Finney thanks his correspondent for her letter and adds that he is delighted she enjoyed a performance, further remarking 'I found the difficulty for a non-pianist like myself, in studying the piece, was the different and separate movements with either hand, but it is strangely satisfying to imagine, as I sit there, that it could be me (fantasy, fantasy)!'. Each of the letters are accompanied by the original envelopes. Some very light, extremely minor creasing, generally VG, 5 Anthony Hopkins is a keen musician who has played the piano since his school days.
Boris Tabacoff for Mobilier Modulaire Moderne, a c.1965 'Scimitar' dining table and four matching chairs CONDITION REPORT: Overall requires some attention. Heavy pitting and discolouration to the metalwork in places. Vinyl on chairs poor and would benefit from reupholstery. One chair with marker pen writing on seat and back- framework on this chair very poor. Glass on table scuffed throughout.
Attributed to Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, a 'Basculant' B301 armchair with a calfskin slung seat CONDITION REPORT: Minor discolouration and wear in places commensurate with age and use. Seat presumably restored although missing several straps from the underside. No apparent signature
A pair of Louis XV style upholstered giltwood open armchairs Each tied wreath topped padded oval back issuing twin acanthus carved padded open arms above the overstuffed seat, standing on tapering turned gadrooned legs. Each 66 cm wide. (2) CONDITION REPORTS: Re-upholstered, some gilt wear/loss, some joint separations, some small chips and minor losses, general wear.
