A 19th century painted pine bench. Height to top of back 78 cm, length 247 cm, depth 31 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bench is structurally fairly sound and serviceable. The back is a little loose in the joints and there is some movement. The legs are also slightly loose. The bench is very rustic and has numerous losses, scratches, scuffs and marks to the paintwork and timbers. The legs all have wear to the extremities. There are some traces of old woodworm but this appears long gone and we do not believe it to be currently active. The woodworm holes are barely evident from the front and more visible on the back seat planks and upright supports.
A set of two carver arm and six single Hepplewhite style mahogany dining chairs, with bowed top rails, pierced splat backs and drop in serpentine fronted seats raised on tapered legs of square section terminating in pad feet. CONDITION REPORT: The chairs are all structurally sound with no loose joints. The condition of the woodwork is generally extremely good and there are only very minor surface blemishes. The only minor issue with the chairs is that the seat cover material is perished on the front edges of four of the eight chairs and the others have various stains. It is only the outer cover that is in poor condition, the upholstery beneath is firm. They simply need recovering rather than reupholstering.
A late Georgian mahogany bowfronted commode, with shelf and furnished interior and raised on turned legs. Height 78 cm, width 59 cm, depth 55 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The commode is in generally very good condition. The mahogany is good quality and generally well figured. The seat has some minor scuffs and liquid marks but no real problems. The piece is structurally very sound with no significant splits or cracks. There are some minor scuffs and marks around the extremities on the legs but no real problems.
A pair of early 20th century oak hall chairs, with carved pierced cresting rails, carved panelled backs, solid seats and turned legs. Height to top of back 113 cm, width across seat front 51 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both chairs are structurally sound and in generally good order. There are no breaks to the backs or seats. There are no repairs to the legs and no loose joints. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A late Victorian oak revolving office armchair, with spindled back and shaped seat. Height to top of back 87 cm, width across arms 65 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally sound. There are no movements at the joints. There are some minor liquid marks to the seat and the odd scratch but generally speaking the condition is very good. The legs are all in good condition with no repairs or restoration. The rise and fall screw action operates as it should. The spring driven rocking chair mechanism also operates as it should. The cast iron circular pierced wheel which surround the threaded section f the rise and fall action has partially sheared off. This does not affect the use of the chair and we have the offending section. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A set of three Victorian mahogany tub armchairs, with leather upholstered back supported by turned spindles and with horseshoe shaped seat beneath raised on turned front legs terminating in castors. Height to top of back 87 cm, width across broadest part of arm 68 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: As you will see from the images the chairs do require substantial work from the upholstery point of view. The frames themselves are all generally tired but they are substantially structurally sound. The chair with the best condition back and seat is loose at the left hand arm joint and there is a section of veneer missing at the rear of the seat rail. There are no repairs to the mahogany frame elsewhere or legs. The front right hand arm support has a fracture and is loose at the base around the fracture and there is a loss to the top of the lock behind. The two other chairs do not have these problems and again there are no repairs and no substantial losses. One chair does have a nibble to the top right hand turning on the right arm and all three chairs do have scuffs and marks as one would expect. The castors are all original, structurally solid and all present.
Two Victorian style Windsor armchairs, in ash with shaped seat turned legs and crinoline stretchers. Height 100 cm, width across arms 62 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both chairs are in extremely good order with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. The seats are solid without splits and manufactured from one piece of wood. There are some minor blemishes around the extremities particularly around the bottom of the legs but no significant condition issues.
A set of eight Regency/William IV brass inlaid simulated rosewood dining chairs, each with drop in seat and raised on turned and faceted front legs and with rear sabre legs (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The chairs are all surprisingly structurally sound with no significantly loose joints. They do not appear to have had any significant restoration. All chairs have traces of what appears to be long gone woodworm, none of which in our opinion is serious. There are some losses to the brass stringing on the top rails and some missing lengths. The back support sections are in generally good condition but again minor losses on three of the chairs. All chairs have nibbles and scuffs to the extremities. Some have had strengthening pegged repairs through the back stiles. One has had all legs tipped. The simulated rosewood work is in generally good original condition. All seats have been reasonably recently recovered but do have some stains. The rear left hand leg on one chair is a little more affected with woodworm than the other chairs although this has not affected the structural integrity. The same comment applies to one rear right hand leg of another chair.
A set of one carver arm and six single Regency/William IV Whitehaven design dining chairs, the armchair with bowed top rail, downswept scroll arms and drop in seat with bowed front rail and raised on turned fluted front legs (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The chairs are generally in very good order. They are good quality mahogany. There are no significantly loose joints. There ae some stress fractures around the knees in places but none of which are problematic. The upholstery to the seats is generally worn and tired. There are stains and holes and tears. Having said that the upholstery is tired this is in the main the final covering. The seat pads and upholstery beneath appear to be in reasonably good order. Note there is one drop in seat missing.
A harlequin set of fourteen Dutch marquetry dining chairs, comprising two 19th century armchairs, two 18th century single chairs and ten further 19th century single chairs, each of similar design (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The height from the ground to the top of the seat pads is approximately 48.5 cm. The width across the broadest section of the seat is approximately 51.5 cm. As the chairs are a Harlequin set they will inevitably be slight variations. Please note that while the single chairs are all structurally fairly sound many have had repairs and restorations over the years. These are too numerous to list. You will obviously see that there are also losses to the marquetry in places on most chairs. The two armchairs are structurally less sound than the single chairs and there are some loose joints, all chairs also have places of woodworm which appears long gone.
An early 18th century walnut side chair, with marquetry inlay to the legs and with balloon back. CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally sound. The legs are firmly attached to the frame. There is plenty of wear to the legs in terms of colour loss, scratches and distressing in line with age. It is upholstered with a light blue fabric which is stained in many places. The seat however and back are both well upholstered with good tension and stability.
An unusual early 18th century carved walnut side chair, with heart shaped motif and carved anthropomorphic cabriole legs. CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally sound is structurally sound with no loose joints. The left hand facing stile has old woodworm holes as does the back seat support. The work appears long gone. The seat frame has veneer stress fractures and small losses. There are also old woodworm holes evident. The same comments apply to the tops of the front legs. The rear legs are sound and free from repair. Again there are traces of old long gone woodworm.

CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally sound with no loose joints. The padded arms require reupholstery. The back and side bergere panels are in surprisingly good order with very minimal issues. The seat bergere panel is coming away at the front edge. The castors appear to be original. They are all a little loose, not significantly. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The chair has some scuff and scratch marks as one would expect but generally speaking it is in good original and restored condition. The height from the ground to the top of the seat cushion is +/- 44 cm. The height to the underside of the front rail is 30 cm and to the top of the front rail 36.5 cm.
A set of four 18th century walnut Queen Anne chairs, each with splat back, cane seat and raised on cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. CONDITION REPORT: Three of the four chairs are structurally sound with no significantly loose joints. The fourth does not have loose joints but does have a crack across the front seat rail and there is movement here. The cane seats on two of the chairs are in good order although they have slightly stretched in places. The other two cane seats are coming away at the front edge and one has some significant losses. All chairs have minor traces of woodworm which appears long gone. All chairs have old repairs to the legs. The rear legs are all worn and three have timber losses.
