A Regency Green Painted and Parcel Gilt Three-Seater Sofa, early 19th century, with later squab cushion above a single-cane seat, the chair backs decorated with anthemion, scrolls and acanthus leaves above downswept scrolled arms, the painted seat rail on turned and tapering forelegs with brass-capped feet and castors135cm by 60cm by 79cmMain seat is worn and needs replacing (see photograph). Structurally the framework is reasonable. Various losses to the paintwork including the gesso (see images). The brass-capped feet need attention. The central support underneath the seat is loose, this just needs re-gluing. Some old wormholes - mainly around the seat rail. With various flaking of paint throughout (see images).

All chairs are structurally sound with the exception of one single chair which has some slight movement. The seats are heavily worn, torn and faded throughout. The chairs also vary in colour. Some scuffs around the legs and with some small losses to the carved details consistent with age. However, three of the chairs have further losses to the rail (see images).

Retouches through the man's hat/cap. Retouches to background up and right of the gentleman. Sporadic retouches to his left lapel. Strengthening to the leaves of the rose, the knot of the wood, the crack of the wall to upper right hand corner has been strenghtened. Some general infilling, presumably to old craquelure, within the shadow behind the seated lady and is more concentrated running down towards the seat of her chair. Further sporadic less notable retouches elsewhere. Paint a little thin in places. Areas of varying sized craquelure.
