An Interesting OBE Group of Five to Sir William Walter Carlile: The Medal Of The Order Of The British Empire, London 1917, Silver Hallmarks; together with 1914 Star with Bar (W. W. Carlile B.R.C.S. & O.ST.J.J.); War Medal (W. W. CARLILE. B.R.C. & ST.J.J.); Victory Medal (W. W. CARLILE B.R.C. & ST.J.J.) and Special Constabulary Long Service Medal (Sir William W. Carlile. BART.) Very Fine to Extremely Fine, in a Spink And Son Case. *William Walter Carlile was born on the 15th January 1862 and spent ten years in the army between 1887 and 1897, where after resigning his commission he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant Of Buckinghamshire. He was elected to Parliament as MP for Buckingham in 1895, retaining the seat until 1906. During the Great War, he served in non-combatant roles with the British Expeditionary Force, The British Red Cross and latterly with the Civil Graves Commission. In 1928 he was created a Baronet for political and public services (London Gazette, June 1928). During the Second World War, at the age of 79, he was asked to reform the local Gayhurst Scout Group, where the local lads helped the war effort by acting as runners and carriers for the Home Guard. A keen hunter, he spent time travelling in India and Africa. He passed away in 1949 aged 87.
