14th-11th century BC. A haematite cylinder seal with a symbol base the 'stylised' or 'sacred' tree stands, flanked by two long bearded men with hairstyle of chignon and knee-length robe, both men, who are certainly genii, hold in their right hand a cone (of pine) with which they touch the tree, this so-called 'cone-smearing' ritual includes a magically protective rite, a benediction and an anointing of a symbol of the king, there is a crescent moon on each side of the tree top, behind the left man is another with the same hairstyle, but in an ankle-length robe, who in the hand of his raised right bent arm holds another pine cone, behind a vessel stand and a large bowl (cf. W. Orthmann, PKG, 1975, fig. 382) and a large jug containing the sacred fluid for the ritual, the special shape of the symbol base as a replica of a seat provided with lateral beads, standing on a base, points to a dating in the Middle Assyrian period (cf. ibd., fig. 195"). For the figure cf. Delaporte, L. Catalogue des cylindres orientaux et cachets assyro-babyloniens, perses et syro-cappadociens de la Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris 1910, pl.XXVI, figs.375, 376, 383; for this ritual see Black, J. and Green, A.
