Arts & Crafts oak Settle, carved with the phrase 'East West Home is Best', with single seat and block printed hessian, the sides with pierced motifs, 194 cm high, 115 cm wide, 61 cm deep. Good condition, very solid, wood has very minor scuffs, The current upholstery is a a copy of the original made by the artistic daughter of the family, in 1978. The original included in the lot.
SAMUEL WOODFORDE, R.A. (1764-1817) A VASE AT STOURHEAD pen & ink with coloured washes inscribed l.r. at Sir Rich'd Hoares 29.5 x 17.0cm / 11 1/2 x 6 1/2in Samuel Woodforde was generously patronised by several members of the Hoare banking dynasty, whose family seat was Stourhead. At one point, Sir Richard Hoare paid Woodforde a salary of £100 per annum which allowed him to travel to Rome in 1786 to study the works of the Old Masters. Woodforde painted a number of the family, and exhibited frequently at the R.A. throughout his life.
A GOOD 20TH CENTURY CHINESE HUANGHUALI WOOD DINING TABLE & SIX CHAIRS, the table carved with simple Chinese style frieze, with carved ribbing above, stood upon four cylindrical legs, the six chairs also simply carved with curving back rest and curved cylindrical legs, the table 142cm wide x 90cm deep x 76.5cm high , the six chairs 104cm high, the seat 44cm x 43cm.

At the 1867 Universal Exhibition he exhibited a few of his own works, including a ‘Water Plant’ cast iron garden seat, which was also available as an armchair. It was also exhibited at subsequent exhibitions: London in 1871, Vienna in 1873, and Paris in 1878.
