Lot 1008

A set of six Queen Anne style walnut dining chairs, with shaped splat backs, drop in leather seats and raised on front shell carved cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. CONDITION REPORT: All chairs are structurally sound with no loose joints. They do not appear to have had any repairs and there is no significant damage. There is no woodworm. There are the usual scuffs and marks that one would expect commensurate with age. The height from the floor to the seat top is 48 cm. The seats are leather upholstered. All seats are in generally good order with no splits but all are showing signs of wear and the leather is beginning to perish a little in places. The seats are however serviceable.

Lot 1011

A Victorian Chesterfield settee, upholstered in pink velvet type material with deep buttoned arms and back and raised on turned front legs terminating in later castors. Height 74 cm, width 202 cm, depth 82 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The settee is structurally very sound. There are no loose joints. There is no movement at the legs. The upholstery is in generally good order also. All of the deep buttons bar one are present. There are no holes in the upholstery. If the colour suits it does not need recovering in our opinion. The seat is slightly soft but comfortable. The seat is slightly sagging on the left hand facing side. The webbing may be slightly loose at this point underneath. The front left hand section of piping just below the seat is detached and requires restitching. Clearly the castors are later. The original castors will have had brass castor cups. These would have butted up to the second of the bottom leg turnings. It is possible that the bottom section of turning has been shortened where it would have fitted the castor cup but were the original castors in place this would not have reduced the leg height. The Shepherds castors have probably raised the settee higher than would have originally been the case by +/- 1”. The width between the scroll arms is 150 cm. The rear legs have not been reduced in height.

Lot 1012

A set of seven early 19th century Whitehaven mahogany dining chairs, circa 1820, each with bowed top rail, drop in seat and tapered legs of square section united by stretchers (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: These chairs are good quality and in exceptionally good condition. They are a good colour. We can see no evidence of any significant damage, no repairs and no restoration. There are no loose joints. None of the back rails have been broken. The seats have clearly been fairly recently reupholstered and are all in very good order. The chairs could be used or resold in their current condition without the need for any work.

Lot 1014

A 19th century mahogany armchair, with pierced and carved splat back moulded arms and serpentine seat and raised on moulded legs. Height to top of back 99 cm, width across arms 102 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The armchair is structurally sound. There are no significantly loose joints. It is generally a little tired and has had work over the years. There are repairs to the top rail where this meets the splat. Both arms have been drilled from the rear and pegged. They are also drilled and pegged where they attach to the side rails. The bottom splat support has been refixed to the rear rail at some time. There are two nail holes evident. There do not appear to have been any repairs to the legs. The front left leg has some nibbles to the moulding. The upholstery is tired and worn and holed.

Lot 1018

A late Victorian/ Edwardian walnut ladies tub chair, with upholstered back and stuffover seat raised on tapered front legs of square section terminating in spade feet and castors. Height to top of back 62 cm, width across arms 65 cm.

Lot 1021

A set of two carver arm and six single Windsor style dining chairs, of large form, each armchair width across arms 65 cm, height to top of back 114 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chairs are probably ash and or oak. They probably date from the 1970's so do have some age. They are structurally very sound and of decent quality. They have a decent weight. They also are slightly larger than normal size across the seat and are therefore not at all deprived.

Lot 1049

A set of eight Stewart Linford ash Windsor style dining chairs, each with crinoline stretcher. Height to top of back 97 cm, width across seat 46 cm. CONDITION REPORT: These chairs are in first class condition with no issues. They are all structurally sound with no loose joints. There are no splits in the seats. There is no evidence of any repairs or any restoration. The colour is good. They could be used in their present state without the need for any work.

Lot 1054

A Victorian Chesterfield style settee, upholstered in green velvet type material and raised on turned front legs with original castors. Height to top of back +/- 64 cm, width 158 cm, depth 76 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The settee is structurally very sound with no loose joints. The front legs both have their original castors and there is no evidence of any repairs. The rear legs are similarly in good order with a replacement castor to the left hand leg when viewed from the front. All legs have scuffs and scratches and marks as one would expect. The upholstery is reasonable good. There are no tears to the material. The left hand back seam is a little pulled in places but this is a minor criticism. The same comment applies to the right hand seam. The seat is a little lumpy but serviceable. There are no springs protruding from the underside however this is hessian covered and we cannot see the webbing. The seating area is a little discoloured and has some very minor perishing to the pile.

Lot 1069

A mahogany Hepplewhite style revolving desk chair, ladder back with leather seat and raised on four legs terminating in Shepherds castors. Height to top of back 97 cm, width across arms 65 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Whilst the chair is structurally sound and operates as it should it is quite tired and requires a good clean. There are no loose joints. The leather seat has no holes but is beginning to perish and is very dry. The studs are rusty. The metal supports beneath also have surface rust. The seat does rise and fall as it should. There do not appear to be any repairs.

Lot 1080

A set of four Arts and Crafts oak dining chairs by William Birch, raised on tapered legs of square section terminating in spade feet. CONDITION REPORT: Height to top of side finials 107 cm, height to top of back 104 cm. Width across seat front 44.7 cm. Seat depth from front edge to stile 36.7 cm. Height from floor to underside of seat rail 41 cm. To top of seat rail 45.6 cm. All chairs are structurally sound with no loose joints. The chair backs are manufactured from two sections of oak. The join line is visible on all chairs. The rush seats of which there are three are showing signs of wear. One is in generally good condition with only minor surface scratches and scuffs to the rushing. The second seat is more visibly scuffed and has several small breaks. The third rush seat is more badly damaged with some losses to the rush work, particularly round the front section of the seat panel. The fourth chair no longer has rushing and has been professionally twined. None of the seat are actually sagging and with cushions over would be serviceable.

Lot 1112

A Victorian mahogany armchair, with deep buttoned back padded arms and serpentine stuffover seat upholstered in beige velvet type material raised on turned front legs terminating in castors. Height to top of back 97 cm, width across arms 65 cm.

A chinoiserie black lacquered three piece bergere lounge suite, circa 1920, with upholstered back and stuffover seat and raised on tapered legs of square section terminating in spade feet. Width across arms 131 cm, height to top of back 78 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The canework to the settee is probably original but in generally order with no serious issues. There are some very minor losses but none of any significance. The settee itself is structurally sound. It is however generally a little scuffed, scratched and marked to the frame. There is also rubbing to the chinoiserie decoration. The upholstery to the seat and back is in generally good order with no holes or damage. The springs seem sound with no protruding from beneath. The canework to one chair is generally good with only extremely minor losses. The chair frame is scuffed and marked, in a similar manner to the settee. The upholstery is in generally good condition. The second chair bergere work is in slightly less good condition than the other with a little more damage but is serviceable and the small losses not particularly noticeable. The chair frame is scuffed and marked. The upholstery is in generally good condition. All pieces are structurally sound with no loose joints.

Lot 1123

Three George III country oak Chippendale style splat back dining chairs, each with solid seat and raised on moulded legs.

Lot 1133

A Victorian Chippendale style carver armchair, with pierced and carved splat back and stuffover seat and raised on front cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet. Height to top of back 97 cm, width across arms 62 cm.

Lot 1153

A Georgian Hepplewhite style sofa, with rollover arms and upholstered back and stuffover seat and raised on front carved and reeded legs terminating in brass castors (one missing). Height to top of back 95 cm, length +/- 227 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The settee is structurally very sound. There is no movement at any of the joints. The left and right front legs are in good condition with only minor blemishes and marks. The centre leg has seen more wear. The bottom section of turned mahogany is rubbed and scuffed at the front. The top turnings have also been knocked and there are small losses. The three front castors are all the same and original. The left and right rear legs are structurally sound. The left-hand facing rear leg is missing the castor. The cup is present. The rear centre leg is nearly detached but does not actually seem to be doing much in the way of support in any event. This would require some repair. It is the only section where there is any significant looseness. The upholstery is tired and perished in places. It is more the cover that is problematic than what is underneath. The piece appears to be well upholstered it is simply the outer covering that is problematic.

Lot 1156

A set of four Windsor dining chairs, each with solid seat, turned legs and stretchers.

Lot 1190

A mahogany window seat, with bolster ends and raised on turned tapered legs. Height excluding bolsters 46 cm, width 89 cm, depth 33 cm.
