An unusual late 19th Century child's oak rocking chair The top rail with a central circular inlaid panel depicting a young girl with her toy dog, above outswept arms over an envelope rush seat, supported on ring turned front legs and mounted on rockers along with a 19th Century stained beech wood ladder back rocking chair with an envelope rush seat and ring incised front legs, heights 71cm and 97cm.
An unusual Victorian carved oak parlour suite Possibly French, comprising a two seater settee, the curved top rail adorned with carved cherub masks and centred with a carved crest depicting two winged mythical beasts flanking a central mask above a central leafy openwork splat, flanked by tapering fluted and leaf carved uprights and sea serpent openwork splats, above a drop in padded seat and a conforming carved front apron raised upon eight swelling carved supports with peg feet, along with two conforming corner chairs, the settee 152cm wide.
LEE LAURIE: (1914-1997) English Poet & Novelist, famous for his autobiographical trilogy which included Cider with Rosie (1959). A.L.S., Laurie Lee, one page, 8vo, London, 17th June 1962, to Mr. Capon. Lee thanks his correspondent, 'for your reminder & directions for Wednesday' and continues, 'I look forward to meeting you at 5.45. I wonder if you would possibly reserve one seat for a friend?' A.L.S., Emile Zola, two pages (separate leaves), 8vo, Paris, 3rd April 1889, to a colleague ('Mon cher confrére'), in French. Zola apologises for not having replied to his correspondent earlier and adds that, instead of disturbing him, it may be simpler to come and see him, enquiring 'Don't you all gather at the seat of the Society of Men of Letters?' and adding 'If yes, please make me an appointment there, at 4pm, on the day that will suit you best, except Thursday and Saturday'.
