12th century AD. A carved oolitic limestone statuette of Mary seated on a throne with the infant Jesus on her lap, an orb in Mary's right hand, a book in Jesus's left hand; Romanesque style, Spanish or French workmanship. Ex Zandwijk collection, previously in an old Dutch collection; acquired before 2001. Mary was sometimes referred to in medieval literature as 'Sedes Sapientiae' (seat of wisdom), a reference to the throne of Solomon, which denotes her status as the carrier of the Holy Child. These seemingly straightforward images convey complex theological ideas. Christ, as the Son of God, is Wisdom incarnate. Mary, who carried Christ in her womb and who holds him on her lap serves as his seat, or throne. Christ also holds the Bible, a further representation of the divine wisdom that he himself embodies. From 12th century AD, Mary was increasingly revered as a nurturing, merciful intercessor and such statues were used as devotional objects, and were carried in church processions. Figures such as these were produced in the Auvergne region of central France during the second half of the 12th-century. The Auvergne Sedes Sapietiae are estimated to number only about twenty five or thirty known examples. 691 grams, 19cm (7 1/2"). Fine condition.

- Believed genuine 31,800 miles from new - Condition described as being excellent and concours - Comprehensive history with copy of original sales invoice This MG Maestro is one of the early 1600 variants with just 31,800 miles showing on its digital dashboard. The vendor has enjoyed having the 'hot hatch' as part of his MG and Austin collection and variously rates its bodywork and paintwork as 'A+ / concours' and its engine and gearbox as 'excellent'. Informing us that the voice synthesiser is working, he adds 'A very full history file is presented with the car, and compliments what is today, a very rare MG. The car has not suffered the passage of time, the upholstery, and all trim, red carpets and seat belts, herringbone tweed grey cloth such a striking feature of the model, remain undamaged and fresh. As does the whole car, an example it would be very hard to repeat'. Original hand and service books are present, as is a copy of the original sales invoice from Grays Thurrock Motors (Essex), showing central door locking, electric front windows, and a steel sliding sunroof having been chosen as options, along with the metallic Opaline Green livery. The current MOT expires in June 2016.
- Supplied new to Spain c.1972 and later updated for promotional use - Engine/gearbox and front discs etc from 1984 donor vehicle, custom interior - UK reg'd since 2007 and MOT'd until Nov 2016 with 'no advisories' Reputedly supplied new to Spain around 1972, this handsome Citroen 2CV Van was later purchased by Mr Shacaluga of Gibraltar with the aim of using it to promote his confectionary business. Upgraded for its new role, the light commercial was apparently fitted with the engine / gearbox assembly and front disc brakes from a 1984 Citroen 2CV Saloon (plus other parts). Treated to a special paint job together with 'Gibraltar Confectionary' stickers, the 2CV also gained a wooden steering wheel, roof height cabin cooling fan, special seat covers, bespoke stainless steel bumpers and Citroen GS Pallas wheel trims. Understood to have been sparingly used by Mr Shacaluga and to have not formed part of his day-to-day delivery fleet, the Van was imported to the UK during 2007 and entered the current ownership some six years later. Titled as a 1984 vehicle, the light commercial is said to be underpinned by a genuine Citroen chassis and to have had its paintwork refreshed by the vendor. Rating the 2CV's engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork as being in 'very good / excellent' condition, the seller also informs us that it has benefited from a gearbox overhaul and replacement steering rack (the latter installed about twelve months ago). Reportedly passing its last MOT test on December 1st 2015 with no advisories, this handsome left-hand drive Citroen Van is offered for sale with UK V5C Registration Document, 'bits and bobs from its time in Gibraltar' and sundry bills accrued during the current ownership.
