A rare example of the less than wholly satisfactory first version of Professor R.H.Smith's boxwood and brass cylindrical slide rule in orig case. The accompanying solicitor's letter, found with it shows that the device was already invented in 1895. Prof. Smith's dispute with Elliot Bros was followed by an improved version made by J.H.Steward of London G+
