Lot 906

F1 Cycles (DPS) produced three model types; a hardtail, a full-suspension plus another variant, and manufactured around 39 bikes in total. Customers included Tom Walkinshaw, Patrick Head and Damon Hill. The model we have for auction is a 'hardtail' which were used for mountain bike races. As a supplier of Industrial Ovens and Autoclaves for curing Carbon Fibre to DPS, the vendor was able to purchase his bike directly from the company. Dave Price, company director, was a mountain bike enthusiast and with his connections in Formula 1 and his companies knowledge of carbon fibre, he began creating a British-made mountain bike brand at the beginning of the nineties. Bernie Ecclestone allowed them to use the Formula 1 name for the bikes.  Formula 1 Cycles was created by David Price and Phil Sharp who are both motorsport experts in their own right and in 1987 founded DPS Composites. early pioneers of advanced (carbon) composites. Phil Sharp, whilst working at McLaren, helped build the worlds first carbon fibre chassis, the Grand Prix winning McLaren MP4. DPS traded in the world of motorsports, supplying Formula 1 and sports car teams the world over. The car, painted in a very light green original with green seats, competed in the 1962 season, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Innes Ireland and Masten Gregory. He achieved an exceptional victory at the Goodwood Tourist Trophy with Ireland. Ca. AD 1100 - 1300A Byzantine Sgraffito pottery bowl sitting upon an unglazed high foot with a deep basin, all enveloped in creamy white and emerald green glaze. The exterior of the straight walls are adorned with sgraffito decoration of floral motifs atop a striped ground. Sgraffito was an imitation of the more expensive first type of glazed islamic ceramic production. End of Old Kingdom / Beginning of the First Intemediary period, Ca. 2181 - 2160 BCA beautiful Egyptian limestone false door. It belonged to Itet, priestess of the goddess Hathor and lady at the royal court. This false door has all the canonical parts: the outer cornice with inscriptions, the decorated torus, the upper lintel, the outer door jambs, the lower lintel and the inner jambs. On the jambs of the outer cornice, Itet is depicted in sunk relief standing up, looking inwards, with a lotus flower in her right hand. In the outer jambs, Itet is depicted seated and looking inwards, with a lotus flower in her right hand. Above her figures the hieroglyphic texts report her titles and name. In the space between the outer jambs, there is a panel with a scene in sunk relief: the deceased seated in front of the offering table. Between the inner jambs, there is a narrow niche suggesting the entrance to a door with a rolled-up mat (drum) above it. The hieroglyphic inscriptions contain the offering formulae to the gods Anubis and Ptah-Sokar in favour of the deceased, her name and her titles, for more see the report. Ca. AD 50 - 200A set of three mould-formed Roman pottery oil lamps. The first lamp has a slightly depressed shoulder frame and depicts a laurel crown in either frame. Its discus features a central fill-hole in the middle of the decoration. The second lamp has a slightly depressed shoulder frame depicting a floral motif. The third lamp has a slightly depressed discus depicting a central motif composed of diagonal lines within the letter N. The fill hole is to the right of the decoration. Ca. AD 800 - 1100A Viking iron bearded axe head with a heavy blade and a socket. Contrary to popular belief, the most commonly used weapon in antiquity was not the sword but the battle-axe. In fact, this weapon had enormous advantages over the more emblazoned sword.Firstly, the axe was easier to make, much more resistant during clashes and did not risk to breaking on the first impact. Moreover, the blows that were given with this weapon were extremely powerful, and this was due to the weight of the axe itself in comparison with the sword. Ca. 2300 - 2000 BCA set of six bronze openwork stamp seals of various shapes. The first seal is round with a protruding spiral pattern. The second is rectangular with a central circle and concentric crescents in each corner. The third is trefoil-shaped, with three arms extending from the center, each ending in a curl. The fourth is round with an intricate pattern of circles and lines. The fifth is also round, featuring two opposite blunted V-shapes that nearly meet in the middle. The last seal is star-shaped with 13 points and a Greek cross in the center, connected to the points by struts from each of the eight tips. Each stamp seal comes with an origianl report by professor Lambert. Three CGC Graded Batman Comic Books Including "Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #1" and Two Variants of "All Star Batman #1" This collection features three CGC graded Batman comic books, each encased in protective plastic sleeves to maintain their condition. The first book is "Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #1", published by D.C. Comics in July 2010. It has been graded with a CGC Universal Grade of 9.2, featuring a sketch cover by Andy Kubert, with the story by Grant Morrison, and artwork by Chris Sprouse and Karl Story. This edition includes a special Colgate mini comic insert and has white pages. The second comic is "All Star Batman #1", published by D.C. Comics in October 2016.
