Littlewoods Challenge Cup winner's trophy awarded to Perry Groves of Arsenal FC in season 1986-87, in the form of a silver-plate miniature of the competition trophy, the body engraved THE LITTLEWOODS CHALLENGE CUP, the detachable lid surmounted with a figure of a footballer, mounted on an ebonised plinth set with a plaque inscribed FINAL, 5th APRIL 1987, WINNER, overall height 24.5cm., in original fitted box baring sponsor's competition logo, fitting from trophy to plinth in need of attention, otherwise good In the 1987 Football League Cup Final, Arsenal defeated Liverpool 2-1. Having trailed the game through a 23rd minute Ian Rush goal, Arsenal's Charlie Nicholas scored a brace with the decisive strike coming in the 83rd minute from a Perry Groves cross. Until this point Liverpool had been on a 144-match unbeaten streak in matches when Ian Rush had scored. It was Arsenal's first win in the competition. The sponsors at this time Littlewoods acquired a trophy from an old defunct football competition to present to the winning team. Its original use was for the winner's trophy for the inter-departmental football competition at the Furness Shipyard, Haverton Hill, Stockton-on-Tees. Perry Groves was signed by Arsenal's George Graham from Colchester United in September 1986 for a fee of £50,000 - this trophy therefore came from his first season at Highbury and in a match where he set up the winning goal.

A rare and important plaque presented to Jules Rimet, 1931 by the French Football Association,  presented to the 'Father of the World Cup' Jules Rimet by the French Football Federation in July 1931, the plaque inscribed FFFA, En Témoignage Affectueux, á Son Président, Monsieur Jules Rimet, Officier De La Légion D'Honneur, Juillet 1931, VIS ANIMI CVM CORPORE CRESCIT, the plaque, cast with a scene of a football match above a pedestal supporting a football flanked by Laurel and oak leaves, signed by the artist Abel Le Fleur, inset with a leather easel frame, 15 3/4 by 11 3/4 in. (40 by 27.8cm) The award was presented in recognition of the work of Jules Rimet as President of the French Football Federation (FFF) and his 10th anniversary as President of FIFA. Rimet worked tirelessly to being about the inaugural World Cup held in Uruguay in 1930, the year before this presentation. This plaque was designed by the Abel La Fleur who had also been responsible for the design of the World Cup trophy, which was later to become known as the Jules Rimet Trophy. Jules Rimet (1873-1956) became President of the FFF in 1919 and President of FIFA in 1921. Rimet has been described as a diplomat, persuader, sometimes intransigent, but always devoted to the game of football. He remained President of the world governing body until 1954. In 1928 at the Amsterdam Olympic Games, where Uruguay retained their Olympic title in the football competition, it was agreed that a World Cup Tournament should take place. Being double Olympic champions - and effectively World Champions - Uruguay offered to host the event which in 1930 also coincided with the celebration of their 100th year of independence as a nation. Uruguay even paid the travelling expenses of the teams who made the journey to South America to take part. A new stadium was built in Montevideo (constructed in just 8 months!) and perhaps, fittingly, the host nation was crowned the first World Champions, defeating Argentina 4-2 in the final. This plaque is a poignant piece of memorabilia relating to the 'Father of the World Cup' an his remarkable legacy.

He played almost all of his club football at Manchester United (making 758 appearances) and in 1968, he captained the Manchester United team that won the European Cup, scoring two goals in the final to help his team be the first English side to win the competition. Lot 946

The match ball used for the Argentina v Germany FIFA World Cup Final played at the Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, 29th June 1986, offered with a signed letter of provenance from the Brazilian FIFA match referee Romualdo Arppi Filho, the ball autographed by Romualdo Arppi Filho and his assistants Erik Fredriksson and Bernylloa Morea the white Adidas Azteca ball is formed of 32 pentagonal panels with a sinuous black & white design inspired by the architecture and murals of the Aztec Civilisation that flourished in central Mexico through the 14th to the 16th centuries. The curvature of the Aztec motifs also acts to frame a series of white discs reserved for the printing of the Adidas branding and confirmation the Azteca is the official ball of the 1986 World Cup. The FIFA 1986 World Cup, Mexico, saw the introduction of the first polyurethane coated, rain-resistant, entirely non-leather synthetic match ball, designed for enhanced qualities on hard, rough and wet surfaces. The Azteca was hand-sewn and consisted of an outer polyurethane wearing coat and three lower layers, which mutually complemented one another with varying structures Adidas termed “Adicron.” These were intended to ensure the ball’s resistance, ability to retain its shape and be waterproof. Adidas were rising to the challenge of producing a high-performance football at World Cup venues staged at high-altitude on sun-baked pitches where turf management is extremely challenging, but at a date in the calendar that coincided with the beginnings of Mexico’s rainy season. The Adidas Azteca represented a massive leap forward for the game. In the 1986 World Cup final played on the 29th June 1986 at the Estadio Azteca before 114,600 spectators Argentina defeated West Germany 3-2 to lift the World Cup for a 2nd time. Jose Luis Brown opened the scoring for Argentina in the 23rd minute with a header after an error of the German goalkeeper, Harald Schumacher on a free-kick from the right and it stayed at 1–0 until half-time. 11 minutes into the second half, Jorge Valdano doubled Argentina's lead with a low side foot finish after cutting in from the left past the advancing goalkeeper.Karl-Heinz Rummenigge pulled a goal back in the 74th minute from close range for West Germany, his first goal in the tournament. West Germany then equalised in the 81st minute, with Rudi Voller scoring with a header from close range. Although Diego Maradona was heavily marked by Lothar Matthaus throughout the game, his pass to Jorge Burruchaga in the 84th minute allowed Argentina to regain the lead at 3–2 when he slid the ball past the advancing goalkeeper from the right and into the corner of the net.
