Sooty Snowball original full colour artwork by Robert MacGillavray (c1940) from Magic Comic. Sooty has politically incorrect snowball fight, the local bobby is not amused! First appearing in Magic Comic, Sooty Snowball was one of the few characters to survive when Magic was amalgamated in to the Magic-Beano Book in 1942. No other artworks are known to survive. Two French Art Deco silver and enamel cigarette cases, the first with London import mark for 1928 retailed by Cartier; the second with London import mark for 1933, the first enamelled in black on gilt background, the edges with a geometric band of decoration; the second enamelled in black with red at either end separated by a waved band of marquisite, 7.5cm.; 3in width of first. An oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock, first half 19th century, the broken scroll pediment centred by a later brass ball and eagle finial, above an arched glazed door enclosing a 13'' white painted arched enamel dial with roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture and marked 'David Jones, Newtown', painted with a shepherdess and sheep in the arch and sheep to each corner, eight-day movement striking on a bell, between turned pilasters over a crossbanded frieze and ogee arched top, lozenge centred, three-quarter length trunk door flanked by fluted quarter pilasters over a further panel, ogive moulding and lozenge centred base panel and raised on bracket feet, restoration, 83'' high
Two early 19th century linen samplers by Sarah and Priscilla Hornby, each worked in crosstitch in coloured wools, with alphabet, the first dated March 12th 1835, the second dated March 13th 1835, the first 29cm x 24cm, the second 31cm x 24.5cm. The first sampler by Sarah Hornby is framed in a plain black frame, indicating that she died before the sampler was framed and displayed.
