Contents well-preserved with a few spots in places, a couple of neat inscriptions in an early hand noting the poems that would be omitted in later editions, in worn C19 half-calf, boards detached, but internally good, 12mo. Indian / Royal Interest: VERNON & CO. Souvenir, The Imperial Visit to Delhi. Calcutta: Bombay, Vernon & Co, [1912]. the album with 85 individual gelatin silver prints of various sizes on 26 grey heavy card mounts, including a panorama of the Coronation Durbar on five sections, the larger prints mounted mostly one-per-page, others mounted in various patterns, each page with printed tissue interleaves bearing titles and the Vernon & Co. imprint. Original red calf gilt, the covers elaborately bordered in gilt, overall 40 x 52cm A record of the Coronation Durbar and the tour made by King George V and Queen Mary to Dehli in 1912. This copy was probably given to Sir William Wilson Hunter at Christmas, 1912, by Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji, the Maharaja Jam Sahib of Nawanagar (1872-1933), one of the foremost cricket batsmen in England. Ranjitsinhji, as Maharaja and famous international cricketer, played his part in the Dehli celebrations. Ranjitsinhji moved easily between India and Britain, kept a house on the Thames in Middlesex and was very much part of the international set. As a cricketer he was the first Indian to win a Cambridge blue, in 1893, and appeared in four Test series against Australia, playing at his best between 1899 and 1904. He left England in 1904, returning to India, but did play in County cricket in 1912.Sir William Wilson Hunter KCSI CIE (15 July 1840 – 6 February 1900) was a Scottish historian, statistician, a compiler and a member of the Indian Civil Service.He is most known for The Imperial Gazetteer of India on which he started working in 1869, and which was eventually published in nine volumes in 1881, then fourteen, and later as a twenty-six volume set after his death.***CONDITION REPORT***Gilt morocco binding scuffed around the eddges of the front board, damaged along the sides of the spine, with further scratching and scuffing to the back, most of the pages with varying degrees of foxing around the edges, title sheets in most cases are now loose, some a little creased but all seem to be present, photographs range in size from 11 x 20cm to 28 x 34cm with one notable panorama titled 'General View at the Durbar Indians collecting dust', which measures 18.5 x 142cm and is torn to the left of one of the sections. A rare set of four Chinese polychrome soapstone appliqué work painted silk pictures, 18th century, each intricately decorated with scenes of figures in a courtyard with pavilions, plants or trees, in European ebonised pine frames, images 20.5 x 14cm, frames 25.5cm x 19.2cm***CONDITION REPORT***The first picture has applied polychrome soapstone figures, trees rockwork and a stool. The tree has a small loss to a section of the branch and there is evidence that the right hand section of the tree has been reglued down, some slight spotting to the silk ground otherwise good.The second picture has applied polychrome soapstone figures and a section of pavilion upper left. Part of the pierced trellis upper left has split and is pushed in slightly and there are two cracks to the soapstone of the plinth of the pavilion, slight grubbiness to the silk painted silk ground otherwise good.The third picture has applied polychrome soapstone figures, a tree, fence and rock work. There is evidence of a small loss upper right to the tree and sections of the tree have been re-stuck down with a crack across the bough of the tree. Some grubbiness and staining to the painted silk background especially in the sky, otherwise reasonable condition.The fourth picture has applied polychrome soapstone figures a pavilion a lantern/Jordan cover. Slight staining to the painted silk background, a tiny splint of chip to a section join a section where it where the soapstone joins next to the steps in the picture, otherwise in good condition.All of the frames are heavily scuffed and scratched, the fourth frame has a few small old wormholes to the border but there’s no other evidence of damage to the picture.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place. Two Chinese embroidered silk purses, 19th century, the first a drawstring purse (hebao), finely embroidered on gauze with antiques and auspicious objects on a cream silk background, the cord with rose quartz beads, 13.8cm wide, the second finely worked in Beijing knot with grasshoppers amid foliage, 10.2cm***CONDITION REPORT***The drawstring purse has wear and small holes to the gauze ground in places and some slight brown discolouration around the edges the silk feels a little delicate in places. 'Kathiawar Tour of His Excellency Sir George Sydenham Clarke, Governor of Bombay, 1910', a leather bound album of photographs by Bourne & Shepherd, presentation copy to Sir William Hunter from Ranjitsinghi of Nawanagar, the album with 160 individual gelatin silver prints of various, the larger prints mounted mostly one-per-page, others mounted in various patterns, each page with printed interleaves bearing titles, with inscription dated 1911-1912 to W.S. Hunter Esq. from Ranjitsinghi of Nawanagor, Original red calf and cloth, sold with a Christmas card to Sir William Hunter from Thakore Sahib Sir Daulat Singh of Limbdi, Kathiawar, in original envelope postmarked 1911, 47 x 37cm A fascinating record of the Kathiawar Tour of His Excellency Sir George Sydenham Clarke, Governor of Bombay in 1910. This copy was given to Sir William Wilson Hunter at Christmas, 1912, by Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji, the Maharaja Jam Sahib of Nawanagar (1872-1933), one of the foremost cricket batsmen in England. Michael Dahl (Swedish, 1659-1743) Portrait of Gilbert, 4th Earl of Coventry, full length in ermine trimmed ceremonial robes and holding a coronetoil on canvassigned243 x 147cm Gilbert Coventry, 4th Earl of Coventry, succeeded to his title unexpectedly in 1712, two years before Dahl painted this lavish portrait. He was the father-in-law of Sir William Carew, 5th Baronet, who married Anne, the Earl's only daughter and heir, in 1713.Earl of Coventry is a title that has been created twice in the Peerage of England. The first creation for the Villiers family was created in 1623 and took its name from the city of Coventry. It became extinct in 1687. The first on an album page 'To Madine, Chuck Berry!' the second being a cut from a vintage programme which is unusually signed by Berry using his 'full' name - Charles Berry. Both signed in blue ink. He played Nicholas II of Russia in the film Nicholas and Alexandra (1971). He has also made many television appearances, which have included playing the Valeyard in all fourteen episodes of the Doctor Who serial The Trial of a Time Lord (1986) and appearing in the Only Fools and Horses episode "Time on Our Hands" (1996) as Raquel's father, James.
