A button off the famous firefighter James Braidwoods uniform Comprising a white metal domed topped button, James Braidwood was born in 1800 and founded the worlds first Municipal fire service in Edinburgh in 1824, he was the first director of the London fire engine establishment, he tragically died at the Tooley Street fire on the 22nd June 1861 where a wall crushed him to death, the funeral procession was a mile and ahalf long, as a mark of respect every church in the city rang its bells. The buttons and epaulette's from his uniform were removed and distributed to the fire fighters of LFEE. Also a framed print of James Braidwood, by C H Jeens dated 1866, verso with history of the picture and how it came down to the family. Provenance: James Braidwood was the maternal grandfather of the vendors late grandmother by descent.
A collection of Royal Crown Derby Imari pattern wares Pattern no. 1128 to include an oval lidded pot, a scalloped rim dessert plate, a circular side plate and pin dish, all typical enamelled in the Imari palate, heavily detailed with gilt designs, red printed factory marks and pattern no. 1128, largest plate 20cm diameter (4). CONDITION REPORT: Lot 303: Good overall condition and first quality.
Two late 19th/early 20th Century silhouettes The first in the manner of Mrs Harrington, depicting a lady wearing a bonnet in profile, mounted in an oak frame, 10.5x7cm, the second depicting a young gentleman holding a swagger stick and dressed in cap and suit before a naturalistic landscape, mounted in oak frame, 28x17cm (2). CONDITION REPORT: Please note there is an uncertainty of date therefore both have been catalogue as 19th/20th Century Smaller: Bloom visible to the black silhoutte area, small areas of foxing, slight staining to the edges, please note the picture hasn't been removed from frame so therefore the condition of verso and edges is unknown. Larger: Foxing visible to the paper, black vibrant and free from bloom, please note hasn't been removed from frame, so therefore condition of edges and verso is unknown.
A collection of 20th Century portrait miniatures The first depicting a gentleman dressed in early 19th Century attire wearing high collar and cravat, signed Levy, in typical ebonised frame, the second depicting a young lady dressed in low necked dress and with hair coiffured, in oval reeded ebonised frame, together with a later print.
A pair of 19th Century ivory portrait miniatures, signed W. R. Walters The first depicting a young gentleman wearing high necked collar, cravat, jacket before a burnt umber ground, the companion picture a lady with pink dress and curled black coiffured hair against a deep violet background, each mounted giltwood and gilt gesso carved frames, 20x19cm (2). CONDITION REPORT: Lot 39: Each good condition, portrait of lady with vertical line running beside face. Very difficult to see, rubbing to gilding on frames and cracks, I think they are painted on ivory, see image.
Two 19th Century copper measures The first a three gallon measure, first half 19th Century, with G.R. government stamps and later issued V.R. government stamps, of typical sloped bulbous form with applied loop studded handle and several early repairs, 14cm high, together with a later Victorian one gallon measure of typical bulbous form with swept studded handle and V.R government stamp, 28cm high, together with a 19th Century coal scuttle with swing loop handle, 46cm high (3). Two 19th Century samplers The first embroidered by Violet Hunt and dated 1897, with several lines of alphabet embroidery, set within a walnut veneered frame, 34x40cm, the second executed by Margaret Fairclough Winstanley, November 23rd 1828, embroidered with four lines of prose, set within floral borders and alphabet designs, 26x43cm.
Two Victorian woolwork samplers by Annie Daniel (nee Worthington) The first inscribed "In memory of Thomas Worthington who died March 3rd 1870 aged 37 years, fixed and eternal state he has fled from all below, we a little longer wait but how little non can know. Annie Worthington 1881", above a pictorial figurative and urn subject and flanked by stylised foliage, approx 60x59cm, the second depicting a religious figurative subject, approx 47x33cm, each inset gilt slip and rosewood frame, and each with family history verso (2).
Two 19th Century tea caddies The first mahogany example of sarcophagus form, surmounted by a reeded block top and raised on compressed bun feet, the hinged cover revealing twin tea compartments and original etched glass mixing bowl, 14cm high, 26.5cm wide, 15cm deep, together with a later mahogany tea caddy, the swept hinged top revealing three compartments with applied foliate lock plate and loop handle, 16cm high, 22cm wide, 15cm deep.
Two 19th Century burr walnut sewing boxes The first inlaid with satinwood crossbanding and hexagonal cartouche and escutcheon with inlaid quatrefoil and transverse banding, the hinged cover revealing later fitted plush interior, 13cm high, 30cm wide, 22cm deep, the second of similar form with mother of pearl cartouche and escutcheon, the hinged cover with later fitted plush interior, 13cm high, 28cm wide, 20cm deep (2).
Captain (Charles) Bruce Bairnsfather (British, 1887-1959) - 'Chat on change' Monochrome watercolour, signed, inscribed to mount 'Chat on Change, you owes me two francs and I owes you one that's got into the lining of me coat, that makes it right, don't it', approx 35x25cm, framed. Provenance: This original Bairnsfather was from his 'Fragments from France' series which was published in Bystander magazine from 1915 onwards. This particularly cartoon was first published in the Bystander magazine on 31st May 1916, and later reprinted in the third compilation volume of Bairnsfather's drawings - 'Still more fragments from France', published in 1917. A possibly Luristan bronze pole section or terminal The stylised abstract horned ox modelled with elongated slender body and legs forming the handle of a pole, with good overall patination, 14cm high. NB: Luristan is a mountain area in Western Iran bordered by Iraq, the body of metal work produced in the first of the first millennium B.C. range of idiosyncratic forms with highly concept models of human and animal representation. Pair of Autograph Books Each nicely presented and full of a variety of autographs from singers, musicians, dancers and comedians from the first half of the 20th Century. One of the books belonged to the vendor's mother the autographs in her book were collected between 1910-1916 and include many famous stage stars of that period such as 'Espinosa', 'Bassett Roe', 'Germaine Frances', 'Jerry Palermo', 'Frederic Sargent', 'Elsie Spain', 'Herbert Waring' and 'Gertie Miller'.
Two Knebworth Festival promo posters Advertised as 'The Bucolic Frolic' on July 20th 1974. This was the very first music festival of this kind at Knebworth which saw an Audience of 60,000 see stars such as Van Morrison, The Allman Brothers, Tim Buckley, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band and The Doobie Brothers play live, both measure 50x75cm.

Stamped SIL to the reverse Length approximately 8.5cm. Weight approximately 29gms; the second depicting a bird in flight, set throughout with graduating marcasite highlights, on brooch pin fitting. Stamped 925. length approximately 5.5cm. Weight approximately 7.4gms; and the third brooch of black onyx and marcasite, depicting a frog, set to the centre with an oval shaped black onyx for the body within marcasite highlights on the legs and head, on brooch pin fitting. Stamped 925. Length approximately 5.5cm. Weight approximately 12.8gms.
