Lot 725

Suffolk Regiment Other Ranks Helmet Plate Centre 1902-1914, second type (Gilding-metal construction) K&K: 371. Four lugs. The change was in the design of the castle, this was necessitated on instruction from the War Office, dated 30th January 1900. The Regiments that used the representation of the Castle of Gibraltar, had to redesign it to the correct pattern then used on the Seal of Gibraltar. The main design change was in the Castle design, itself now having three Turrets with the key suspended by chain below the central gateway rather than laying under the Portcullis in the first type, the grass also removed from under the castle, and 'Gibraltar' scroll held against the top of inside of the circlet.
