Collection of Pre First World War ephemera to 7560 Private William Stanley of the 1st Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, Stanley enlisted on the 2nd January 1904 aged 20 and was discharged/transferred to the Army Reserve on 5th February 1912, he appears to have spent most of his service abroad at Karachi in India where he spent four years as the regimental chiropodist, documents include his discharge and character certificates , 2nd Class Certificate of Education, copies of Battalion Orders from 1905,1908 and 1911, documentation pertaining to his enrolment as a postman on leaving the army, etc, (qty)

Second World War German soldiers photograph album, the cover has a representation of a German steel helmet with Werhmacht decal in relief to the top corner and is embossed in silver lettering 'Kriegserinnerungen' ( War Memories), the albums photographs starts by showing the soldier as a signaller in an infantry regiment in Germany, as the war progresses he is shown on campaign in believed first in Greece then Russia where he is wounded and is later shown wearing the ribbon for the Iron Cross 2nd Class, Wound Badge in Black and Infantry Assault Badge, the photos show a vehicle with the formation sign for the 50th Infantry Division and graves for the 123rd Infantry Regiment which formed part of the Division, the album finishes with well done pencil drawings of the soldier and a photograph of him with the shoulder boards of a 2nd lieutenant, the album has an entry that mentions Rolf Mense, Lieutenant in an Artillery Regiment so it is possible he transferred to the artillery, very interesting album worthy of further research
First World War Autograph book belonging to a member of Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service, it contains the autographs of soldiers, many giving their units and the date of writing, most appear to be from 1915/16, there are the autographs of some well known stage actors of the period and the signature of Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig-Holstein the grandaughter of Queen Victoria, there are also poems and pencil/ink drawings and cartoons and watercolours throughout the book, the book was compiled by Violet 'Podge' Osbourne, who had joined the QAIMNS in 1914 on the outbreak of the war and served in hospitals in Yorkshire and France ( there is a watercolour in the book signed by an officer of the Gordon Highlanders at Nunthorpe Hall which was an auxiliary hospital near York during WW1 ), there is also an interesting typed explanation of how the book came into the vendors possession, a poignant memento of the First World War

First World War casualty grouping, pair of medals, 1914-1918 British War Medal and Victory Medal ( 243051 PTE. H.S. TILLER. THE QUEEN'S. R. ) records show Private Hubert Stanley Tiller, born 1898, of Damersham, Hampshire, entitled to the BWM and Victory Medals, he was conscripted, age 18, on the 25th September 1916 initially into the Essex Regiment and then for a short period into the Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment with the regimental number 243051, he then transferred to the 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers with the regimental number G67979 and served with that battalion in the 190th Brigade, 63rd (Royal Naval) Division during the 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) where he suffered gunshot wounds to the left thigh and right foot, he was then transferred to the Royal Defence Corps, serving with 463 Company with the regimental number 85705, after the war he was granted a small disability pension due to his wounds, also included are Hubert Tiller's pocket New Testament with his name to the inside cover, his Certificate of Discharge to the Reserve, a quantity of General Service tunic buttons, a copy of a photograph of him in Service Dress uniform and a framed Royal Fusiliers badge that by family repute, was embroidered by him, (qty) (Hubert Tiller was the brother in law of Private Frederick Sibley RMLI whose medals are also in this auction)
First and Second World War family grouping, 1914-1918 British War Medal and Victory Medal ( T4-216887 CPL. C. F. CAMKIN (misspelt) A.S.C. ) , 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with clasp 'North Africa 1942-43', Italy Star, 1939-1945 British War Medal with R.A.F. entitlement slip to 1233192 L.A.C Campkin, original addressed postage box and yellow metal and enamel R.A.F. sweetheart badge, records show Corporal Cecil Frederick Campkin enlisted on the 5th October 1916 aged 28, served in France with the 3rd Line of Communications Supply Company, and is entitled to the BWM and Victory Medal, there is also a quantity of photographs and postcards dating from the late Victorian era to the Second World War and after, these include photos of ASC soldiers and several pages from a photograph album believed to have belonged to L.A.C. Campkin with notes outlining his wartime service , photographs include Tobruk, Tunisia, George Formby at an ENSA show in Sicily, Pompeii and Rome, Air Sea Rescue boats in the Adriatic,there is also an interesting diary named to 151146 J.W. Hayhoe which runs from 1917 to 1919, in its 29 closely written pages it includes his journey from Borden in Hampshire to Alexandria in Egypt, the digging of gun pits, bombardment and taking of Nazereth, detailed desciptions of visits to Holy sites including Bethlehem and Golgotha, at the back of the diary is a list of villages visited in Palestine, dates when towns were captured and a record of his army pay, records show 151146 Gunner John William Hayhoe of the Royal Field Artillery entitled to the BWM and Victory Medal,(the connection between Campkin and Hayhoe is unknown) entries in the diary suggest he may have served with the 54th (East Anglian) Division, there are two photographs named to Hayhoe, also an Egyptian phrase book, YMCA guide book to Jerusalem and a British Red Cross Society Nursing Manual named to Mabel Harrison, 96th Essex V.A.D., (qty)
