Wisely', 16.8 x 33.6cm, frame 33.7 x 50cmThomas Agnew & Sons Ltd (no. 35716). Midlands' collector. Thence by descent.Peter de Wint was the son of a Dutch-American father and Scottish mother. He trained under B.Rogers and J.R. Smith. Through Dr Munro he was influenced by Thomas Girtin and first exhibited at the R.A. in 1807. First and foremost he was a landscape artist, but other than a visit to Normandy in 1828 he only travelled around England and Wales, having many patrons, including the Earl of Lonsdale and the Earl of Powis.Some general fading, and some surface dirt. With a vertical blemish on top left edge.approx 1 cm in length,(with old repair?)Frame in generally sound condition, apart from some minor surface scratches and gilding rubbed.
After Francois Giradon (1628-1715), a cuir bouille repousse leather portrait of louis XIV (1638-1715)Probably first half 18th century, in an oval giltwood and gesso frame moulded with leaves and berries.79cm x 64cm (frame 97cm x 79cm)A near contemporary of Louis XIV, Francois Girardon sculpted multiple portraits of the French king in bronze and terracotta, as busts and also full figure on horseback. A near identical repousse leather portrait of similar size was sold at Christie's Paris rooms, 18 May 2022, lot 196.Potrait: A few minor cracks/splits to the leather around the head. A few minor surface marks but generally good.Frame: Some shrinkage at the joints. Small losses in places. Some small repairs/restorations.
Three mounted stag antlers together with an unmounted antlerThe first with six points, on a carved walnut plaque inscribed 'G.H.D. / Forstalpe / 2.XII.1946'; the second with ten points, on a similar carved walnut plaque inscribed 'G.H.D. / Waldensteiner Schlag / 8.X.1928'; the third with nine points, on a plain oak shield plaque; together with an unmounted eight-pointer. (4)Schloss Wolfsberg / Henckel-Donnersmarck, thence by descent to the vendor.The vendor's late wife was a Henckel von Donnersmarck and whose home, for a time, was Wolfsberg Castle in the Austrian state of Carinthia. She had inherited a number of works of art and furnishings from the castle, which she brought to England when she emigrated here. Forstalpe is a mountain in the Lavanttal Alps to the North West of Schloss Wolfsberg. G.H.D. is most likely Georg Graf Henckel von Donnersmarck (1902-1973).
A George III mahogany chest on chest, the cavetto cornice above two short and three long, graduated and cock-beaded drawers, the base with three graduated long drawers, raised on bracket feet, minor damage and losses, 110cm wide x 57cm deep x 180cm highOverall – ok, but some damage, including lacking some small elements of carved cornice and a 4cm section of veneer on stile at the base on the left of the upper section and lacking some sections of cock-beads, including 4cm on the centre of the base of the first long drawer of the base. Scratches, dents and chips consistent with age and use. Later handles and dowels visible on short drawers where previous handles sited. Some old restoration, including sections of veneer on rails and stiles and cock-beads.
Mahmood Tahir (British 20th/21st Century), Waterloo cup, circa 2005, two greyhounds chasing an hare, of 'U' form, engraved 'Waterloo Cup 2005', '46/95', monogrammed 'MT', limited edition patinated commemorative bronze cast at The Sculpture Foundry in Birmingham, exclusive to Victoria Gallery and created after the final Waterloo Cup 2005, weight approximately 975g, with certificate, approximately 20cm long x 15cm high (3) Lindsey Knapp (Victoria Gallery). The Waterloo Cup Committee have the first number (1/95).
Two 9ct yellow gold, white stone & sapphire rings. The first ring having five round cut sapphires alternated by round cut diamonds, hallmarked for London 1970, makers marks for SJ. The second ring in a chevron form being set with sapphires & white stones to a tapered shank, hallmarked for Birmingham 1988, makers marks for GJ. Total weight approx 2.1g. Approx sizes N.5 & K.5.
Two vintage turquoise & silver rosary style necklaces. The first necklace having black veined blue beads to simulate turquoise with silver wire work & fancy link chain tassels to the end. The second having organically shaped graduating turquoise beads to a silver tassel much like the other. Metal tests as silver. Longest measures approx 76cm.
A collection of four hallmarked silver identity bracelets. The first having an unengraved identity panel on a curb link chain united by spring ring clasp, hallmarked for London 1974, makers marks for Z LD. The second having reading 'Anne-Marie' to the identity panel on fancy links with a spring ring & safety chain & engraved 'Love Trevor' to the back, hallmarked with import mark for London 1992. The next being etched with 'Ursula' to the panel to curb link chain & box clasp, hallmarked with shooting comet for Spain (750/1000 purity). The final bracelet engraved 'Margarete' to the front & 'Love Les' on the back on a fancy link chain with spring ring clasp & safety chain, hallmarked for London, date letter rubbed, makers mark for A G C. Total weight approx 59.0g. Longest measures approx 22cm.
A collection of three bar brooches. The first brooch of 9ct yellow gold with a round cut purple stone set to the centre in a floral mount with C clip verso & marked 9ct, measures approx 5cm. The second being a white metal C clasp brooch pin with an offset from centre spider set with white & purple stone, measures approx 5cm. The final brooch made of 18ct gold with blue stone & seed pearls creating a floral pattern on a C clip verso, marked 18ct, measures approx 5cm.
A large British coin collection which is believed may include part of the Ockham Treasure Trove of 1979. It also includes a scrapbook assembled by the finder during the process of reporting the find and the court proceedings that determined its status. The scrapbook indicates a find of a quantity of milled silver and a few gold coins all of relatively recent age, and apparently as taken from circulation. The silver coins offered in this lot are generally notably clean with little toning. The collection includes five framed assemblages, the coins being attached to the backing material with simple blu-tack. The first frame holds 33 silver coins dating between 1816 and 1846 including 10 half crowns, 9 shillings, 12 sixpences and 2 fourpences. The second frame holds loose coins comprising a sovereign 1892 (Sydney), 2 half crowns, 2 florins, 9 sixpences and 3 threepences. The third holds a sovereign 1842, a half sovereign 1842, and silver dating between 1839 and 1852 comprising 3 half crowns, 1 florin, 2 shillings, 3 sixpences and 2 fourpences. The fourth frame contains a half sovereign 1828, a crown 1819, and 4 half crowns, 3 shillings and 3 sixpences all dating between 1816 and 1820. The fifth frame contains a half sovereign 1837, and five half crowns, 4 shillings and 6 sixpences dating from the 1820s-1830s. Also in this collection is a coin cabinet of four display trays containing mostly decimal and late pre-decimal British coins and a very little silver, a tin of 2.8 kg of corroded British bronze coins apparently discovered by metal detector, and an album containing a small quantity of foreign coins and a few pre-1947 British silver coins.
