Three handcolored folding engraved maps & two engraved plates. viii, 408 pp. 8vo. London: Printed for R. Phillips, 1807. First edition. Rudge (1754-1825), antiquary, became archdeacon of Gloucester in 1814 and was the author of several works on the history of Gloucester. "He was successful, both as a parson and writer The Reverend was a literary man, a local man, and clearly and quite definitely closely acquainted with the area he wrote about."-Fussell, "showing a detailed knowledge of farming practice and an able grasp of the economy of the county as a whole, [it] was a vast improvement on the board's first survey for Gloucestershire, a slight work of 1794 by George Turner, and was more comprehensive even than a substantial treatise on the county produced by the professional agriculturist William Marshall in 1789." From an impressive private collection of antique books / manuscripts, mostly relating to Bristol. Most books have a plate affixed to the inside cover or frontis detailing the collection to which they came from. Regarded as one of the best private collections of Bristol books, students from Bristol University were often sent by Bristol Library to the owners home in order to study the texts.

Military items and effects belonging to C/H O'Dell of the Household Cavalry, including two riding crops, the first War Department issue; the second with a silver collar inscribed, 'With Gratitude, Tweedale Troop, 1962; two wooden mounted shield plaques; the first with the horse shoe of 'Keystone', Regimental No 124, an Irish Mare born in 1953, nature said to be 'nervous, centre, willing', Duty, 'Troop Horse, Charger to CH/ O'Dell from Dec '64 to Sept '67', the Hind shoe used on March from Wellington Barracks to Lord Euremont's Estate, Sussex via Aldershot and Back. Sept 1965, Distance 140 miles. The second plaque with O'Dell's helmet plate, a white belt with brass military buckle, inscribed to O'Dell; his red helmet plume contained within canvas lining, a pair of size 9 + 1/2 to 11 shoe trees, pair of horse blinders, a bit and pair of military issue stirrups dated 1967, together with an original black and white photograph of O'Dell in his uniform and a copy of Presentation of the Standards to the Household Cavalry, 28th April 1953.
