A Good Pair of 19th Century Prussian Officer's Percussion Pistols by W Poppe, Berlin, each with English 20.5cm hooked octagonal twist steel barrel with multi-groove rifling, the top flat engraved London, the underside with Birmingham proof marks, platinum line, dolphin hammer, foliate engraved back action lock plate inlaid in gold with maker's name, with a rare rising stud safety feature which locks the hammer away from the nipple, the walnut half stock with foliate engraved silver coloured metal furniture of fore-end tip, shield shape escutcheon engraved MK 1840, spur trigger guard to the set trigger, foliate engraved side plate and butt plate, with finely chequered bag butt and steel swivel ramrod, 34cm **A caplock breech loading rifle marked Poppe is in the Hermitage Museum Collection, St.PetersburgEach :- action works holding for three bents, the first operates the safety stud. A Queen Anne or George I tortoiseshell and silver box, unmarked, English circa 1710-20, the hinged rectangular cover with silver pin work and an embossed head and shoulders portrait of Queen Anne wearing a laurel wreath, 5.5cm (2 1/8in) long; and a late Victorian silver rectangular vesta box, London 1896, plain and engraved S.S. India/ P Co. Sep. 1896 , 4.7cm (1 7/8in) long (2) SS India was a steam passenger liner operated by the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company between 1896 and 1915. India was the first of five sister ships built for P , the others being the Persia, China, Egypt and Arabia. India was the largest ship built for P at the time. She was hired by the Admiralty on 13th March 1915 and was used as an armed merchant cruiser. On the 8th of August that year she stopped off Helligvaer, near Bodo, Norway, to investigate a suspected blockade runner, and was torpedoed by SM U-22. India's sinking caused the deaths of 160 men. The surviving 22 officers and 119 men were taken to Narvik.
