Mary Swanzy H.R.H.A (1882-1978) Standing and Seated Female Nudes, 8 ¼ x 10 ½ ins (21x 26.5cm - Frame 15 ½ x 17 ¼ ins, Provenance Pyms Gallery Mayfair London - no 73 1978 - Mary Swanzy first studied art at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art under the direction of Mary Manning, who encouraged her to move to Paris to further her education. In 1906, the young Irishwoman took classes from society painter Antonio de La Gandara, and attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and Académie Colarossi. Her early output still followed a very traditional path In 1908 the influence of cubism started to become visible. Her inspirations at the time were André Lhote and Albert Gleizes’ late cubism, and Robert Delaunay’s orphism. She then turned to landscape painting. Her marine and harbour scenes from the late 1910s and early 20s show two influences: while some are clearly inspired by Paul Cézanne – whose significance she was most likely the first Irish artist to have understood – others show the importance of R. Delaunay’s work. She spent the following years travelling, which provided her with many sources of inspiration, yet her style still remained faithful to the School of Paris. However, her palette grew darker throughout the 1930s and during World War II her works became infused with a symbolic dimension. Her later period was more serene.

Die Arbeit gilt als erster Versuch, im Zuge der Interpretation eine präteristische Auslegung anzuwenden: Lt. Alcazar seien zahlreiche Ereignisse bereits eingetroffen. Hier der vierte Druck a.d. Jahr 1619, reich illustriert mit Kupfern nach Don Juan Jaureguy (1583 - 1641). --- Mittelfeld des Rückdeckels stark bestoßen. Deckel u. His work is considered as the first attempt to apply a preterist interpretation to the prophecies: According to Alcazar, some of the events have already happened. Our copy is the fourth print, published in 1619, richly illustrated with engraved illustrations by Don Juan Jaureguy (1583 - 1641). - Blind stamped pigskin over wooden lids. The clasps are only preserved in fragments, the center area of the rear board is heavily bumped.
