SHIPYARD DIVING SUPPORT VESSEL MODEL MV DEEPWATER I CIRCA 1983 in traditional day-glow red livery with helicopter pad, crane winches, lifeboats etc. made by MODECON FABRIEK C DUBBELAN BV 21983 EC-RIDDERKERK. HOLLAND, on its original plinth with fitted Perspex cover 16in. (40cm) wide, 22in. (55cm) high, 48in. (121cm) long Note: In 1986 the vessel M.V. Deepwater I was a state of the art high tech support ship owned by the Wharton Williams company. With its crew of divers they recovered a further 29 bars of Russian gold from HMS Edinburgh sunk off Murmansk in 1942 by German U boats. The first recovery of gold was in 1981 when the salvage team of 12 divers recovered 431 bars of gold from a total of 465 (with an estimated value of £56 million) at a depth of 840ft. the Deepwater I is still in service, now called the Rockwater I. It was built as one of the first purpose built dive ships with a central moon pool for the saturation dive system.

Brooks, London, 1839, each 27 x 37cm.; 10.5 x 14.5in, together with Richard Gilson Reeve (1803-1889) after James Pollard (1792-1867), The Mail Coach in a Drift of Snow; The Mail Coach in a Flood; The Mail Coach in a Storm of Snow; hand coloured aquatints, each plate 33.5 x 45cm.; 13.25 x 17.75in (7).
A very interesting address book believed to be Samuel Prout’s; partly filled, the first page starts with a written note ‘Left Hastings Tuesday by Coach - to Tunbridge - by train to London - 3rd Oct 1843 - I left at the Bidford Hotel’. Nineteen other filled pages with names and addresses including Mr Cromer, 141 New Bond Street, G. Achermann, Bishops Road, Paddington, Mr Cruikshank, Portland Place, Lady Chantry, Gloucester Square and many others including Augustus Pugin, Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, Lady Waldegrave, 4 Park Square and J. Ruskin, 31 Park Square, Grosvenor Square. John Ruskin wrote the Seven Lamps of Architecture and for The Art Journal wrote an account. He says of Samuel Prout circa 1849 “the artist” he says, “whose drawings first familiarised him with French architecture”. This address book gives a contemporary insight into Prout’s friends and clients, book size 8cm x 2.5cm, bound in calf with a metal clasp.
Samuel Prouts Accountancy Books (5) One book has the accounts relating to the publication of a facsimiles of sketches made in Flanders and Germany in 1833, on an opening page is noted: 3 copies India for the Queen - left at St James with S H Wheatley - paid. 1 copy India for the King - paid. 1 copy Duchess of Gloucester left at Gloucester House - paid. 1 copy India - Princess Augusta left at St James - paid. 1 copy India - Duchess of Kent left at Kensington Palace - by cheque 6-6-0. one book accounts 1809 - 1816 another accounts book 1824 - 1831 another 1831 - 1851 another 1839 - 1844 The first book has an interesting contemporary inscription on the inside back page which reads ‘E G and S P married Dec 27th 1810’ ‘Rebecca Elizabeth Prout born July 30th 1813 at 4 in the afternoon and christened at Lambeth Church September 8th following. The account books afford an intimate and documented insight into the artists clients buying habits and the artists income from his art work for the period 1824 - 1851.
OF INTERNATIONAL BALLOONING INTEREST Three “Sparrow” farthing tokens for the ascent of I.E.Farthing at Oxford in 1823 and 1825, five bronze plaques for the Aero-Club De Belique Gordon Bennett Cup for 1923, 1924, 1925 and 1926, awarded to Captain C.W.Berry. contained in a walnut travelling decanter case with double sided glazed hinged door, containing three clear glass decanters and stoppers, 42 x 36cm. * The Gordon Bennett Cup is the oldest ballooning race and was first held in Paris in 1906. The event was sponsored by Gordon Bennett owner of the New York Herald newspaper. The race was held each year up until the Second World War and revived again in 1983. This year The Gordon Bennett Cup will take place at Bristol on 24th September, 2010, six countries, 13 teams have been nominated so far.
