A 1950 Football World Cup Final whistle used by referee George Reader,the Acme & Thunderer silvered whistle inscribed ARBITRO GEORGE READER INGIATERRA COPA JULES RIMET BRAZIL 1950.1950 FIFA World Cup Final between Uruguay v Brazil, played at Estadio do Maracana, Rio de Janeiro on 16th July 1950, with Uruguay winning 2-1.George Reader (1896 - 1978) was the fourth man to referee a FIFA World Cup Fina and the first Englishman to do so, also being the oldest match official at any World Cup in history at the age of 53 years. During the Final an incident in the 47th minute occurred when Obdulio Varela took the ball out of the Uruguayan net after Friaca's goal put Brazil 1-0 up. Varela strode up to the referee arguing in Spanish to the mono lingual George Reader and when play started again Varela issued a rousing cry "Now, it's time to win!"

A fine polo trophy for The Pringle Challenge Shield competed for between 1922 and 1939 at the Goriajan Club on the Koomtai Tea Estate, Assam, India,hallmarked Atkins Brothers, Sheffield, 1922, the large shield measuring 45 by 34cm. inscribed THE PRINGLE CHALLENGE SHIELD, GORIAJAN, 1922, with floral decoration and set on an ebonised wooden shield-shaped base with easel support, and set with 18 plaques, mostly bearing full silver hallmarks, each inscribed with details of the annual winning polo team, the plaques for 1933 & 1939 further inscribed DHUNSIRI and NAZIRA CLUB respectively, suggesting the competition was no longer exclusively held at the Goriajan Club, overall 60 by 48cm., good condition, minor scuffs and scratches to ebonised base The Goriajan Club was located in Assam at Sankala Gaon on the Koomtai Tea Estate with polo first played there sometime between 1897 and 1914. The Pringle family was originally from the Carriber Estate in West Lothian, Scotland. FAIRCLOUGHLiverpool won their first major trophy under Bob Paisley by narrowly winning the League title after heated competition from Dave Sexton's Queen's Park Rangers. In a dramatic climax to the season, Liverpool needed to either win or secure a low-scoring draw against relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers. With 14 minutes left for play and despite constant pressure in the second half, the Reds trailed to a Steve Kindon strike for Wolves. The title was slipping away from Liverpool but three late goals from Kevin Keegan, John Toshack and Ray Kennedy took the Championship trophy away from Loftus Road to Anfield. He remained at the club until the end of the 1935-36 season.The Football League Third Division South Cup was a football knockout competition open to teams competing in the Football League Third Division South, the competition first held in 1933-34 and ran until 1938-39, the cup was revived for the 1945-46 season. The dedicated collector acquired a multitude of books and artworks throughout decades, meticulously labeling and archiving every single item. Many came directly from the most preeminent artists of the time, as well as from their families and estates. He also possessed a vast number of drawings from the famous collection of another avant-garde enthusiast, Nikolai Khardzhiev. After leaving the USSR in 1989 and settling in California, Viktor continued his work as a Soviet art dealer and critic, actively publishing various articles and contributing to several major Russian avant-garde exhibitions across the U.S., such as the 1991 Russia Under Fire in the 40s on the West Coast and the 1992 Guggenheim exhibition The Great Utopia: The Russian and Soviet Avant-Garde. Kholodkov also contributed to the archives of the biggest American institutions. His sophisticated selection of over 2000 Russian sheet music covers was acquired by The Library of Congress, and an extensive amount of material related to VKhUTEMAS is now at the J. Paul Getty Museum.
