TO BE SOLD AT 3.00pm PROMPT. R.M.S. "TITANIC" - AN IMPORTANT PREVIOUSLY UNRECORDED TWO PAGE LETTER, written on White Star `On board R M S TITANIC` notepaper, by Charles Frederick Morgan, storesman on board the Titanic, to his Mother. The letter, in pencil, is dated April 11th 1912, Near Queenstown and was received a few days after April 15th, the tragic day that the writer was one of around 1500 to lose their lives. It has been in the possession of the family up to this day and is offered here for sale for the first time. Two original photographs of Charles Frederick Morgan will be sold with the letter and an additional folder of family research. Charles Morgan was born in 1868 to a Birkenhead family. He seems to have led a varied life, at one point working in South Africa where he volunteered and served in the Boer War. He later served on a number of ships before joining the Titanic on 4th April 1912, 100 years to the day that his final letter is offered for sale. The Titanic moored at Roche`s Point off Queenstown, West of Ireland, the normal last port of call for transatlantic liners, for only two hours. The brief note Charles Frederick Morgan dashed off at this time must surely be one of the last written on board to reach its destination. Full text, further details and full provenance available on request.
