Advertising Art Nouveau original vintage poster The Fine Art Society's Exhibition - Water Colours of Flower Time. In the Austrian Tyrol Italy & England by Rosa Wallis. The Fine Art Society are art dealers with two premises, one in New Bond Street, London occupied since February 1876, and given a new entrance facade in 1881 by Edward William Godwin (1833–1886), and most recently fully refurbished in 2004–05, with a new gallery created for contemporary work. The other gallery is in Dundas Street in Edinburgh's New Town (originally Bourne Fine Art, established 1978). The gallery is also known as the pioneer of the one-man exhibition, most famously that of James McNeill Whistler's First Venice Set of etchings in December 1880; the gallery having sent Whistler to Venice in 1879 in part to enable him to escape from the issues following his libel action against John Ruskin. The commission was for Whistler to travel to Venice for three months to create a series of twelve etchings. Beguiled by the city, he stayed for fourteen months and completed approximately fifty etchings. Venice also inspired Whistler to make some hundred works in pastel, of which 53 were shown in the Venice Pastels exhibition in 1881. During Whistler's absence in Venice, the gallery showed his antagonist John Ruskin's private Collection of Watercolours by J. M. W. Turner, and ran a subscription to pay for Ruskin's legal costs: a supreme exhibition of political sleight of hand. Other living exhibitors at the London premises included Sir John Everett Millais, John Singer Sargent, Burne-Jones, Frank Brangwyn, Walter Richard Sickert, Walter Crane, George Washington Lambert, Henry Charles Brewer and Joseph Southall, and more recently Leonard Rosoman, Emma Sargent, Emily Young, John Byrne, Alexander Stoddart and Geoffrey Clarke. Make & Model:Triumph, TR6 Date of Reg:LPP786L Colour:White cc:2498 Fuel Type:Petrol Mileage:72540 Transmission:manual Summary:While this 1972 Triumph TR6 is listed as having 15 owners, it seems that only the first, second and third ones did the majority of the mileage as all MoTs with the car show minimum use; since 1995 it has only covered around 7000 miles. Currently, the odometer shows 72,540 miles. The TR6 was involved in a minor accident in 2023 requiring a new front wing, bonnet and front panel. No mechanical damage was done. The car was repaired by the insurance company and a full bare metal repaint carried out. It is HPI clear. Photos of the work are included in the paperwork file, including showing it in bare metal. The interior is original and in good order. The hood is the original factory item (and there's a hood cover in the boot) but has shrunk slightly so is a tight fit, while the engine has been converted to unleaded specification. During 2020 the fuel injection system was overhauled including the fitment of a modern fuel pump and reconditioned metering unit. The original fuel pump is still in including the pipework and could be reused if needed. A stainless steel exhaust has been fitted with custom-made free-flow rear silencer. Four new Continental tyres were fitted in 2022 and have covered around 3000 miles since. The TR6 was in the Coventry Transport Museum between 1981 and 1989. The vendor tells us that the car is in good mechanical condition and is running very well and reliable. It was driven 50 miles to the sale. Being registered in September 1972, the TR6 was built in the last two weeks of CP model production and so benefits from the gearbox being fitted with stronger Stag internals but mated with the original A-type overdrive, including overdrive on second gear. The last MoT expired in January 2025 after being tested the year before at an indicated 70,195 miles. However, as an historic vehicle, the Triumph is now MoT-exempt. Make & Model:Daimler, 15 Date of Reg:NV2947 Colour:Red cc:1805 Fuel Type:Petrol Transmission:manual Summary:This rare early Daimler 15 was initially registered in August 1933 but has now fallen off the DVLA system so will need to be reregistered. Our vendor has kindly provided us with the following text:"We bought the car on the basis of a pub conversation in 1995. The car had been stored by the owner halfway under an awning. It appeared more or less complete and certainly all important parts were there, though in uneven condition: the left hand side appeared to be in better condition than the right hand side. According to the buff log book (continuation document) the car was first registered on 30 August 1933. A little brass plate fixed to the wooden instrument panel states that it had been "supplied by J.W. Hall Flecknoe" It was first registered to Clement Brown upon whose death it was inherited by his friend and the father of CJ Whittaker from whom we bought it.We decided to do a complete body off restoration, right to the bare chassis. This proved to be in a more or less rust free condition. The '15' spare parts manual proved to be of great help. With the help of an excellent painter from Nuneaton we were able to get the chassis coated in a dark red rather than the more orthodox black.Turning to the engine, we faced a slight puzzle: clearly, it had been reconditioned at an earlier stage but then completely re-assembled but without washers, seals, oil etc. At a later stage, we did re-assemble the engine again and managed to get it running in a most impressively smooth way.The body, having been made of steel over a wooden frame did of course show some signs of corrosion, mainly on the wings, but this was not insuperable. The vinyl roof had suffered badly over the years but we managed to find an expert who was willing to supply, shape and fit a new fabric roof with an excellent result. He also fitted a new woollen roof lining. The painting of the body shell was done by an experienced professional friend from our Nuneaton College days. The upper part of the body was, as is customary kept black, whereas all the side panels as well as the wire wheels were painted in a really dark maroon red. The exterior trunk is of the period and fits well the folding luggage rack, but is in fact not linked to the car and stems reputedly from a Vauxhall of the period. As to the brakes, we were pleased that the car, being an early version of the 15, featured hydraulic brakes as well as a De Wandre servo unit. All wheel cylinders were refurbished and new brake linings fitted. The lighting system follows the system for the 15 at that time: no trafficators, a single rear light with a single brake light incorporated in the same Lucas unit. We did however replace the torpedo shaped sidelights with a larger more imposing upright Lucas design as fitted to larger Daimlers. It was possible to save and recondition most of the reddish brown seats (Repeated coating with Hydrophane) as well as the door cartons. All glass, including the narrow glass ventilation strips at the top of the doors was replaced. Also replaced were the beige floor carpets, door surround trim and the lower parts of the door, whereas Ne decided to retain the carpets at the base of the seats. The tyres are totally new (Blockley). There is also quite a large number of smallish and varied items such as door handles, and window winders and related accessories, as well as a Lucas claxon and windscreen wiper motor, the latter we were reluctant to fit as it appeared to be rather lethal with levers protruding a mere few inches in front of the driver's face." As well as a considerable quantity of spare and duplicate parts, there's also a paperwork file that includes the buff continuation logbook, photos of the vehicle as found and its restoration underway, the owner's handbook, servicing data guide, the vendor's more comprehensive write-up of the car's history from 1995, spares catalogue, 14-page 1932 sales brochure, technical information and some older invoices. There is no V5C due to the car needing to be reregistered.
