Scratch built model of a 1986 Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-6 built by Bob Hine, in presentation case, 18in. wide, signed July 1993 menu card, team bag, various programmes, etc., (a lot) 1 of 9 models built in 1987 by Bob Hine for Guy Edwards, a former F1 driver and then agent, who had brokered the sponsorship deal between Gallagher (which owned the Silk Cut cigarette brand) and Tom Walkinshaw Racing who managed the Silk Cut Jaguar racing team. The models were presented to key figures from Gallagher and TWR. The model was immediately given by the MD of Gallagher to the seller, who at the time was a young motor sports fan whose father worked as a consultant to Gallagher. The model has been in his ownership ever since. The models were entirely scratch built. Bob Hine visited the TWR factory to measure and photograph the Silk Cut Jaguars. The body, chassis, cockpit interior and rear underbody of the model were laid-up in fibreglass. The wheels and smaller parts were cast in white metal ( a lead/tin alloy). The finished models were sold to Guy Edwards for £750 each. The model is of a 1986 Silk Cut Jaguar, driven by Eddie Cheever and Derek Warwick. That year in May a Silk Cut Jaguar driven by Cheever and Warwick won the Silverstone 1000km endurance race (1 of 9 races in that year’s World Sport-Prototype Championship). The TWR Silk Cut Jaguar team finished 3rd equal in the 1986 Championship, but went on to dominate the 1987 season, winning 8 of the 10 races and finishing with almost twice as many points as the runner up. They also won overall in 1988, including Jaguar’s first win in the Le Mans 24 hour race since 1957.
