SPORT AND PLAY 1905 - B'HAM CLUBS Issue of Sport and Play magazine, 29/4/1905, which acted as the programme for Villa, Birmingham (Small Heath) and West Brom and was sold outside their grounds as the match programme. This issue has team lists for Aston Villa v Manchester City, Small Heath Reserves (Birmingham City later) v Shrewsbury (first team) and West Brom Veterans v Villa Veterans. Eight page issue includes League tables and fixture lists for all three teams and their Reserve teams. Crucial match for City who could have won the League Championship if they had won. However, in a bruising ill-tempered affair, Villa won 3-2 and then amongst the ill-feeling Villa alleged that City players had tried to bribe them to lose the match. This resulted in a Disciplinary Tribunal hearing and City were forced to sell off the team as several players were banned from appearing for City again and City officials were banned sine die. United were the main beneficiaries as City had to auction off the players and Billy Meredith amongst others moved over to United. No writing. Generally good
