Walter Cooper Dendy The Islets of the Channel, with sections on Alderney, Serk, Guernsey and Jersey, published by Longman, Brown, Green, Longmans and Roberts, London, printed by Savill and Edwards, Chandos Street, London, 1858, with sixteen small woodcut illustrations and two maps from drawings by the author. Fifty-six pages bound with three quarter marbled boards and leather spine with gilt title. Very scarce. * Walter Cooper Dendy (1794-1871) was a past President of The Royal Medical Society of London and Consulting Surgeon to The Royal Infirmary for Children and Women and also a well known poet and author. He was a noted draughtsman and illustrated his own works. When he retired from practice he occupied much of his time in the reading room of the British Museum, where his eccentric costume made him a well-known character. The unique descriptions and sketches of the Channel islands in this booklet are obviously a first hand account of his personal visit to the Channel Islands during the middle of the 19th century.
