It is a chicane between stone walls. He got going through there to a fine art. Blades within an inch of the walls. While practising  they hit the walls with the blades a number of times. This usually lead to broken blades. The rudders commemorate some of their major rowing wins. The larger rudder is from a clinker built eight used in the winter and smaller from shell eight used in the summer. He and the 2 other college crews still hold an Oxford rowing record.'
