One of the touch points of this watch is although it is complicated it remains very thin, based on the extremely thin Jaeger-LeCoultre Cal.920 automatic movement, the perpetual mechanism is added as a layer or module under the 'Opaline' dial. The current lot is a reference 25554ST and was produced in a very limited number of examples. As referenced in Audemars Piguet 20th Century Complicated Watches, p.231, of the 279 made, only 49 were in steel, 229 in yellow gold, 0 in two-tone, 1 in platinum, and 0 in pink gold. The current example, executed in steel is a low number so would have been amongst the first to be produced. This example would be a fantastic piece to have in any collection. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

The 1950s saw Audemars Piguet dive head first into ultra-thin watchmaking and numerous watch companies invested significant resources in engineering the thinnest watches possible. GEORGE SMITH RSA (SCOTTISH 1870 - 1934),ON THE FARMoil on board, signedimage size 30cm x 40cm, overall size 46cm x 56cm Framed.Note: George Smith was born on 2nd February 1870 in Mid Calder, a village formerly in the county of Midlothian. He attended George Watson's Boys College in Edinburgh from October 1882 and his formal training as an artist commenced at The Trustees Academy (Edinburgh) in 1885. At the age of nineteen Smith travelled to Antwerp to train under Verlat at Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts d'Anvers. After returning to Edinburgh he enrolled at the Royal Scottish Academy Life School where his fellow students included Samuel J Peploe and Robert Brough. Smith won the Keith Prize (1894) for the best painting by a student of the Life School at the RSA Annual Exhibition. George Smith had his first painting accepted for the RSA Annual Exhibition in 1888 when he was only eighteen years of age and probably uniquely had at least one painting accepted every year for the rest of his life. A total of 122 entries were accepted at the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) until his death on 26th November 1934 and in 1935 a further five were exhibited. He also exhibited 87 paintings at the Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI) between 1892 and 1935. His work was also exhibited at Royal Academy (London), in Liverpool at The Walker Art Gallery, at Manchester and at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. He also exhibited abroad including at Rome (1911) and at The Munich International Exhibition in 1912. In an issue of "The Studio" in 1908 it stated "in every important art centre from St Petersburg to Paris his work is favourably known". George Smith's considerable commercial success was probably why his style and subject matter of horses or cattle in association with man in a rural environment changed little during his career.

Robertson's work rarely appears at auction but in The Scottish Pictures Auction of 27th July 2016 "Interior of Kelvingrove Art Gallery" (by J.B Robertson) sold for £1900 (hammer).Condition report: Condition is good overall, with no visible signs of damage or known issues.

* EUGEN DEKKERT (GERMAN 1865 - 1956),HORSE AND CARToil on canvas, signedimage size 51cm x 61cm, overall size 62cm x 72cm Framed.Note: Eugen Dekkert was generally known in Scotland as "Eugene" as the pronunciation of his name (Oigun) was a little unusual for some Scots. Dekkert was born in 1865 in Stettin, Germany aka Szczecin (and now part of Poland under the Potsdam Agreement of 1945) and he came to live in Scotland as a young man. He first lived in Glasgow and then settled in the East Neuk of Fife in the early 20th century. He and his wife Emma were living in St Monans at both the 1901 and 1911 census. The fact that he lived there explains why he often painted the harbour at St Monans. It was written in 1906 that "the sea is never absent from his work" and that his style was "strongly individual". He had studied at the Academy in Munich as a student of Theodor Hummel. Presumably, he returned to Germany at the time of the Great War. Eugen Dekkert participated in numerous prestigious art exhibitions in Berlin, Dresden and Munich. Many of his works are in international as well as German museums, such as the Neue Pinakothek in Munich. Eugen Dekkert died in 1956. Dekkert is often referred to in the UK as Scottish and sometimes as Dutch. His dates are also frequently recorded incorrectly and even his time in Scotland is misreported probably because his work continued to be exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and at other venues until at least 1938. However, after 1913 his address was listed (in RSA exhibiting records) as "c/o Messrs James McClure & Son, 130 Wellington Street, Glasgow", so one can reasonably conclude that he was selling through McClure as an agent and was no longer resident in Scotland.

In 1980 at the Oriel Gallery Dublin he had a show with many local scenes including Co. Donegal, Near Ardee, Co. Louth; Cushendum, Co Antrim; Near Slane, Co. Meath. Lot 2085

Designed 1939, made 1945, with needle-point three band tuning scale, in bubble-rib profile brown bakelite case. Footnote: The very first British post WW11 set released, but born from Ferranti's drawings set and approved in late 1939. It is noted that these surviving examples retain some clever yet inevitable 'cutting-of-corners' from a time when parts, manpower and financial restrictions were very tight. Good old Ferranti - they were almost as good as Murphy. But without the cigar.
