Also present are all but four of the thirty-five possible overprinted 1d red plate numbers. In hingeless mounts and written-up on quadrille pages alongside a detailed printed commentary, highlights are (mint unless otherwise stated) 1880 ½d rose set of the three plates incl. pl.19 used, 'Cyprus' 1d plates 193 and 220, ovpts on surface-printed issues complete to 1/- (SG.6), 'Half-Penny' surcharges incl. pl.174 pair, SG.7 pl.217 used (BPA cert. 1951, 1x2mm thin spot) and pl.218 etc, followed by 1881 first Cyprus proper set used (SG.11/15), 1882 set mixed mint and used with 4pi and 12pi mint, unlisted and scarce 'Postal Surcharge' handstamps on 8d and 1/- revenues, '½ ½' surcharges incl. 1886 large 8mm type SG.28 used and SG.29a used, 1892-94 complete in singles and blocks of four (lower stamps MNH, 12pi toned gum), 1894-96 set, then complete 20th century (excl. 1928 £5) with 1923 10/- and £1 (SG.100/101), 1924 £1 (SG.102), 1928 £1 blue and brown MNH and the set also ovptd specimen (SG.123s/132s), 1944 1pi orange MNH (SG.154a, cat. £550), better early QEII shades (SG.177a block of four MNH and SG.192a MNH), as well as comprehensive specimen overprints from 1962 to 1980 (over seventy MNH sets), Turkish first set in MNH blocks of four and with 'Ornek' (specimen) ovpts, etc. Cat. to end of KGVI is over £20,000.
Cyprus An album from the same collector as the previous Lot, with an apparently complete run of first day covers (148) from the 1960 Republic overprints on QEII set to £1 (SG.188/202) through to 1982, with the souvenir sheets as well including the 1963 Scout sheet (SG.MS231a, cat. £180 as used off-cover) elusive as FDC.
France The Red Cross booklets. A complete run of fifty-three from 1952 'Basin of Diana' to 2004, the 1962 Fragonard being the scarce second printing in purple-brown and grey, SG.XSB12a, cat. £1,000 (please note: the SG listing has the prices the wrong way round for this and the more common first printing). Very fresh and clean quality in both contents and covers throughout, displayed in a binder. Total cat. over £3,500, or €3,200 in 2022 Yvert.
France A collector's accumulation in disparate parts with plenty of unusual material, in about a dozen volumes and loose filling a large carton. Two Davo albums have mint from early 20th century onwards incl. 1922 orphans surcharged set (SG.388/295), 1925 Exhibition 5fr single (SG.412), 1926 55cts on 60cts sower (SG.443), 1926-'27 orphans (SG.450/453), 1928 and 1931 1.50fr sinking funds both MNH (SG.463, 493), 1931 surcharges as coins datées, gum disturbance (SG.494/496), 1936 S.America flight 50fr (SG.554), 1954 relief fund portraits MNH (SG.1215/1220), a good range of airmails incl. 1936 50fr blue and red, toned (SG.541), 1950 1000fr (SG.1059), 1954 planes set MNH (SG.1194/1197), etc. Elsewhere noted 1927 Strasbourg m/s used (SG.MS454b, cat. £1,400), 1937 PEXIP m/s used (in another album an example of a cover in which this sheet was mailed from the exhibition), 1927 high values mint incl. two 20fr types (SG.475, 475b), lots of mint sowers varieties, another 1000fr Paris bridges airmail this time MNH, etc. Also a very nice range of postal history including a written-up correspondence incorporating eighteen FDCs of the 1930s, 1929 1st catapult flight cover, 1935 'Normandie' maiden voyage, late 1930s first flights, 'maximum' cards from early 1940s onwards, etc., as well as 21st century € face value with mint sets, m/ss and booklets probably comprehensive to at least 2007. New Zealand The first part of an extensive collection, the QV to early QEII, in three stockbooks, laid out to accommodate the various printings on the 19th and early 20th century issues, 19th century used starting with 17 perf Chalons, then 68 different QV profile heads of different perf formats, group of over 30 back-print advertising, early pictorials again by printing to 2/-, Christchurch exhibition set clean mint (SG.370/373, cat. £275), 1935-36 pictorial set used with extra perf varieties incl. on 2/- and 3/-, 1936-42 version the same but MNH, continuing solidly parallel MNH and used incl. 1953 mounted queen set. The third smaller volume has a good range of officials incl. 2/- SG.O66 used, 1940 set MNH, life insurance with 34 different lighthouse types, postal fiscals from QV, gum toning as often on the later issues, incl. SG.F191 to F202 run of twelve MNH or vlh on lower values (cat. £730), 1942 11/- on 11/-, etc, etc.
British Africa British Africa KGV to early QEII mint/MNH collection written-up in three albums, with further working accumulation including many large multiples and full sheets in two stockbooks and a folder, altogether approx. 7,000+ stamps, the main strength (as with the collector's K.U.T. - see Lot 110) being in the KGVI period, highlights including Gambia 1938-46 set incl. 1½d brown-lake and bright carmine (SG.152, cat. £300) and the brown-lake and scarlet shade in full sheet of 60 (SG.152a, cat. £600 as singles), Natal 1902 5/- and 10/- very fresh, Northern Rhodesia 1938-52 set (top two values MNH) with 1d 'extra boatman' SG.28a MNH in block of four, 'tick bird' flaw SG.30b MNH, 1948 wedding 20/- MNH, etc, Nyasaland KGVI key-plate high values (8) to £1 incl. British Commonwealth etc. A box with three main loose-leaf albums of many hundreds of pre-1950 stamps with highlights including Bermuda KGVI key-plate high values incl. mint 10/-, 12/6d and £1, Cyprus 1928 set mint with £1 MNH and superb used 45pi and £1, India classic imperfs incl. two 4a red and blue both cut-to-shape, Ireland St. Patrick high values first set mint (10/- creased), St. Helena 1922-37 ships to £1 mint, Zululand 1894-96 to 4/- used, etc. Further classics incl. Includes Fiji with first KGVI set complete shades and perfs (34 different, 6d SG.260 toned, 10/- and £1 MNH), Gilbert & Ellice, Pitcairn, British Solomon Islands, Nauru, Norfolk Island incl. 2d violet on white paper MNH (SG.4a), and Papua & New Guinea virtually complete to 1975. Min cat. £2,700.

Scandinavia FDCs from the 1930s onwards, mint new issues incl. Great Britain Used collection in seven green Windsor albums, mixed condition yet with some attractive key stamps in the first volume, beginning with lots of line-engraved incl. penny black with four margins and red MX, 1d red plate 9 four margins, four corner letters 1d reds set with nice plate 225, perf 2d blues plates set, followed by lots of surface-printed plates to 2/- though variable quality, mostly bar cancels, KEVII range of printings to 5/- with many shades, then a good showing of KGV Downey heads incl. 'no cross on crown' on later 1d types, seahorses incl. B/W 10/- cds, 1929 UPU £1 black, etc, through to QEII appearing virtually complete on pre-decimal varieties, then decimal to 2011. Please inspect.
Great Britain Comprehensive collection in SG albums, the first volume with 1840 to 1935 highly complete used, starting with three penny blacks and 1840 2d blue with incomplete margins, through key surface-printed in decent quality incl. 9d bistres (SG.86, 98), 2/- brown (SG.121), 1878 10/- and £1 (SG.128/129) the latter with clear central cds though also some blue crayon, 1883 10/- blued paper (SG.131), 1882 £1 blued paper (SG.132) absolutely sound, well-centred and with relatively acceptable bar cancel, and £5 orange on white paper (SG.137) with ideal cds plus rectangular GPO cancel and a vertical blue crayon strike. Also 1884 £1 wmk crowns sound (SG.185), 1888 £1 wmk orbs faults (SG.186), 1891 £1 green, Edward VIII £1 with small faults, £1 green seahorse small faults and heavy cancel, 1929 £1 PUC attractive used, etc, continuing solidly with better QEII then further albums for issues to 1990, plus the balance of 1000s of GB quantities and foreign in envelopes in metal filing drawers etc.
Great Britain Immaculate mint QEII/KCIII collection from first issues to 2023 in twelve albums: six 'Windsor' and six expensive large boxed 'Philatelic' albums. Virtually all mint never hinged in high quality throughout, including Waterlow castles and both De La Rue printings all pristine MNH, through to comprehensive regionals and postage dues. Face value excluding Machins is over £5,600.

A GEORGE II/III MAHOGANY EIGHT-DAY LONGCASE CLOCKTHE DIAL WITH A SIGNATURE FOR RICHARD PECKOVER, LONDON, MID TO LATE 18th CENTURYThe four finned pillar rack and bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by seconds pendulum, the 12 inch brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture to the matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with diamond lozenge half hour markers and Arabic five minutes to outer track, with scroll-pierced steel hands and twin-bird-and-urn cast spandrels to angles beneath added arch applied with a domed engraved silvered boss engraved Richard Peckover, London flanked by dolphin cast mounts, in a solid heavy mahogany case with concave-sided 'pagoda' superstructure fronted with a shaped foliate pierced fret over moulded break-arch cornice and hinged glazed dial aperture applied with three-quarter columns to angles, the sides with rectangular glazed windows and conforming quarter columns set against bargeboards at the rear, the trunk with break-arch door applied with complex edge mouldings over a plain plinth base with ogee top mouldings.229cm (90.25ins) high, 48cm (19ins) wide, 24cm (9.5ins) deep. Richard Peckover is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working first in 'Change Alley' in 1735 and then Royal Exchange in 1751 until around 1754. He is believed to have taken-on Quare and Horseman's business in 1733. Condition Report: Movement is complete and in working condition with no visible alteration to the mechanism, it is however a little dirty/neglected hence a clean and overhaul is advised. The dial has an 'added arch' suggesting that it originally was a square dial clock and later converted to arch dial. Bearing this in mind we cannot offer any assurances that it is by Peckover. The dial is a little dirty/tarnished but undamaged. The case has veneer patch repairs to the around the fretwork aperture to the superstructure - the curved top moulding has also been replaced with a simple curved strip (rather than the original cavetto profile). The base is lacking a skirt otherwise case is in sound condition with faults limited to relatively minor bumps and scuffs.Clock has two weights, winder, pendulum and a case key.Condition Report Disclaimer
