Advertising Signs: A large collection of original sample advert signs, made of metal and designed by the Metal Box (Hudson Scott Branch) Factory in Carlisle, Cumbria. They were saved from being destroyed by the factory by the vendor. All dating to circa 1950s and mostly in clean, good condition as they have been kept by the factory as samples in their archive.This lot includes many square, rectangular signs of various sized adverts including; Wills Cigarettes, Broom electric motors, County Council notices, Velvex polishing cloth, Mackechnie of Widnes, Senokot standardized Senna granules and tablets, Bampel pallets, Dinkie Dean, "Woman's Illustrated" First For Fashion larger sign, "All In One" Kennel Meal signs, Golden Bananas and others. Also with an original sample of various "From Britain" Union Jack circular signs, in original paper packet dating to 1949 and with sample label from the Metal Box factory. A Perthshire glass paperweight of domed form, internally decorated with three concentric circles of star canes in white and amber, with twelve yellow blue and white twist canes between white and pink star canes, all outlined with a garland of amber and white canes over a blue ground and cased in clear crystal, retains original paper label, boxed, diameter 7.5cm, together with two further Perthshire paperweights with similar internal decoration including twist canes and complex millefiori canes, the first in tones of red, pink and purple the other in green pink and purple. He gave his cat to his employer to sell to earn money, but then ran away to escape his evil employer's cook who mistreated him. the Bow Bells rang as he fled and seemed to say, " Turn back, Whittington, Lord Mayor of London." Robin Tewes (American, b. 1950). Oil on panel diptych titled "The Art of Happiness 1 and 2," 2005.One panel depicts a man seated at his desk surrounded by crumpled pieces of paper. Words are inscribed into the chartreuse wall in the background. An abstract painting of a nude woman hangs on the wall. In the other panel, the man has left, leaving a still-smoking cigar.
