Fleming (Ian).- Knight (Maxwell) Gunmen's Holiday, first edition, occasional light foxing, original cloth, 8vo, 1935.⁂ Loosely inserted is a hand-painted wooden diorama of a dalmation and chicken by G.E. Studdy (signed "G.E.S."), mounted on card with calendar (for 1938) beneath and pink ribbon above, inscribed on verso by Maxwell Knight "To Joan & Dennis [Wheatley] with all good wishes from Max". The book itself is dedicated to the Wheatleys (To J. and D.W.). Charles Henry Maxwell Knight, OBE (1900-68) was supposedly the basis for the character 'M' in Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. G(eorge) E. Studdy (1878-1948): British artist who created the cheeky cartoon dog Bonzo in 1912. Bonzo's popularity prevailed throughout the 1920s and 30s and he appeared on postcards, toys, annuals and even in silent cartoon films.

Y A collection of Victorian jet and black pressed brooches, circa 1860, comprising three jet brooches of polished coiled form, approximately 5.5cm long; a converted jet cameo brooch, carved with the profile of Hera, 4.7cm long; together with a Vulcanite brooch of a hand with frilled cuff, 5.8cm long; a pressed tortoiseshell brooch of a hand holding a basket; and two further pressed brooches of a cherub with floral swag; and a hand with racquet; 110g gross Condition Report: the first three brooches have some scratches, two have had the brooch fittings reglued. The cameo has some chips, a big chip to the reverse, drill holes from being a bracelet, later brooch fitting. The tortoiseshell hand with basket has some flaking to the material, the little finger tip is missing, but this appears to be from construction.
