A RARE 1ST DRAGOON GUARDS OFFICER'S SWORD SUITE TO THE ELMSALL FAMILY, comprising a scarce Celtic hilt sword with 86cm curved pipe backed blade with recurving spear point, regulation steel hilt with Celtic decorated bowl guard, wire bound fish skin grip, some losses, stepped flattened pommel, contained in its steel scabbard, together with its companion Heavy Cavalry Officer's 1796 Pattern Ladder Hilted sword, 86cm curved pipe backed blade with spear point, etched with a maker's panel at the forte for Brander & Potts, regulation pierced steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, leather liner, contained in its steel scabbard, together with a 1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officer's dress of "Boatshell" sword, 80.5cm fullered blade, regulation copper gilt hilt with D-shaped knuckle guard, spherical pommel, silver wire bound grip, contained in its steel scabbard and a related 1854 Pattern Royal Engineer's NCO's sword, of characteristic Gothic hilt form and with various Ordnance stamps to include regimental markings for the Royal Engineers, scored through, and the 3rd Volunteer Battalion Devons, contained in its field service scabbard. (4) When purchased by the Vendor it was stated that these four swords had formerly belonged to the Elmsall family. While there is no documentary proof or engraved crest or initials the Royal Engineer's sword provides a minor piece of corroboration in as much as William Edward de Cardonell Elmsall served with the Royal Engineers during the First World War. See pages 100-107 of The British Cavalry Sword 1788-1912 by Richard Dellar for a discussion on Celtic Hilts.

J. GAIRDNER from Col. U. Yule 1823. As a junior officer William John Gairdner served with the Native Infantry in operations in the Oudh during 1813 and 1814 - Rewah and Etah, Nepal War and Bareilly during 1816, The Third Mahrattan War, First Burma War, Gwalior Operations and the First Sikh War. Entitled to C.B, Army of India Medal 1799-1826 Nepal and Ava, Maharajpoor Star and the Sutlej Medal.

42nd Street Train Station (NY) Signed Watercolor. 20th c. watercolor/paper. Signed indistinctly lower left. 42nd Street was an elevated express station on the IRT Third Avenue Line in New York City. It had two levels with the lower level (built first) having three tracks. The main line tracks were served by two side platforms. A side platform connected to the southbound platform was used for shuttle service to Grand Central. The upper level was built as part of the Dual Contracts, and had one track and two side platforms over the two local tracks. The station closed entirely on May 12, 1955, with the ending of all service on the Third Avenue El south of 149th Street. Sight Size: 13.25 x 19.25 in. Overall Size: 19 x 25 in.Framed behind glass.
