A Scottish Military-Style Piper’s Dirk, first half of the 20th century, straight single edge blade cut with 2 fullers, bog oak hilt carved with basket weave and inset with nickel pins, in its patent leather covered wooden sheath with nickel mounts, the locket with Scottish lion, lower mounts with thistle each made to retain a companion knife (absent) and fork (present), the back engraved P.6., good condition, pommel and thistle from chape both missing.

A GERMAN NAZI SS PEAKED CAP AND TUNIC, former property of SS-Gruppenfuhrer Paul Scheer, executed for war crimes by the Soviets in Kiev in 1946. The cap with heavily silver-plated eagle and skull insignia, and silver braid chin strap. Inside with the makers celluloid label and named on paper strip "SS-Gruppfhr. Paul Scheer SS 337771". The tunic in thick field grey material, silver bullion SS eagle on left sleeve, silver bullion on black velvet collar patches, on a dark green collar, shoulder straps and loops on chest for various awards. Berlin tailors label inside named to Paul Scheer and dated 9th March 1944. SS-Gruppenfuhrer Paul Scheer was born on 4th April 1889 in Pruem. After service as a professional soldier in the First World War he joined the police in Koblenz in 1921. When the Nazi party came to power in 1933 he joined the party as member 3,144248, and later the SS as member 337,771. During the war he was appointed police commander of Kiev, later moving to France. He was promoted to SS-Gruppenfuhrer and Lt. General of Police on 26th February 1944. This tunic is believed to have been made for him soon after that date. He and eleven other defendants were hanged in Kiev by the Soviets on 29th January 1946. His awards consisted of, amongst others, Iron Crosses, first and second class, Honour Cross 1914-1918, Silesian Eagle first and second class, War Service Cross 1939 first and second class, SS Totenkopf ring, SS Sword of Honour.
A RARE PAINTED PORTRAIT MINIATURE OF TITANIC SURVIVOR, ELSIE BOWERMAN, in Scottish Womens Hospital Uniform, circa 1915-1920. Elsie Bowerman was an early suffragette, surviving the Titanic in 1912, she went on to serve during the First World War with the Scottish Women's Hospital. Later, among many other achievements, became the first woman barrister at The Old Bailey. Else Bowerman's survival of The Titanic is well-documented. The well known Molly Brown, Frederick Fleet, the lookout who first saw the iceberg which sank the Titanic, and Quartermaster Robert Hitchens were on board no. 6 lifeboat along with Elsie Bowerman.
Three Japanese carved ivory netsuke, Meiji period, the first formed as a seated tattooed man shaving, signed Rantei, 3.25cm high, the second formed as a seated boy holding a fan and a doll, unsigned, 3.75cm high, the third formed as a man pushing a whale, unsigned, 4cm long, also a Japanese carved rosewood netsuke in the form of a rat, signed possibly Shuzan or Shozan, 3.5cm high Condition: Man shaving - his right hand is missing, boy with doll - there is a 'V' shaped chip approximately 5mm to his right side, man with whale - the man's right foot is missing - **General condition consistent with age
The John Wood Drawing Set - A fine set of 18th Century drawing instruments, the silver and fish skin case bearing the script 'John Wood, Architect' together with the Coat of Arms of this famous son of Bath. Dating from around 1745 the set comprises: white metal scale rule, white metal mounted ivory sector rule, compass, dividers, bow, two pens and a pencil, the two rules bearing the name of the maker Thomas Heath of London, there is one vacant aperture which would suggest that there is one piece missing, 13cm high John Wood Senior was born in Bath in 1704. His first important projects were the North and South Parades in 1728, followed by Queen Square, Prior Park (1735-48) and the Royal Mineral Water Hospital in 1738. Of course the developments for which he will forever be remembered are The Circus, completed in 1764 after his death by his son John Wood The Younger and The Royal Crescent 1767-76, executed by the younger Wood from his father's designs. His major works outside Bath were both the Bristol and Liverpool Exchanges. He died in his home city in May 1754 Condition: The hinge has snapped and so the lid is not connected to the main case, there is one empty aperture where there may have been an instrument/ink phial, the crest panel has a few shallow knocks and the panel is lifting slightly, see images - **General condition consistent with age
