English calf, gilt spine worn, joints cracked, bound between 2 other books of neo-Latin verse, both imperfect, considerable contemporary annotation, some in a nice Italic hand, inscription "John Cooke his booke" on third title, many pen trials and names on first title, [Cambridge], [1640?] *** Unrecorded and probably unique; not in STC. Perhaps connected to the Honorifica armorum, recorded by Anthony a Wood, but not extant (see Jenkins, Benlowes, 1952, bibliography). Several of the poems appear in other Benlowes guises e.g. the Ad Magnae Britanniae anagramma quadruplex in Lusus poeticus , 1634 ( the supplement to Quarles); is closely connected with Carolo Augustissimo Britannicarum Monarchae...anagramma triplex, present here, which begins with the same lines. Also the excruciating geographic anagrams in the latin poem appended to John Sictor`s (4to) Panegyricon 1638 also appear here; see Jenkins p. 127.The date is suggested by a chronogram on the first page, but there are other possible interpretations. The other works are Jacopo Sannazaro, Opera omnia, Lyons, 1536( apparently lacking the last leaf with device) & Janus Dousa, Epodon, Antwerp, Plantin, 1584 (Voet 1109B; lacking A8)..
