Sydney from North Shore, 1875, panorama photograph of Sydney by Charles Bayliss (1850-1897) and Bernard Otto Holtermann (1838-1885), consisting of five albumen prints conjoined and mounted on linen-backed paper mount, image heavily faded, creased, chipped and split with complete loss of approximately 6 cm strip between first and second albumen print to the left of the panorama, Holter[mann] printed in the image lower centre, locations and points of interest in contemporary purple ink to upper and lower mount, mount soiled and browned, together with a black & white collotype six-part panorama of Sydney Harbour by Exchange Studios, circa 1920, from an original photograph taken from North Sydney, printed credit in the negative and captioned to lower margin, some soiling and a few small stains, long split to centre fold, linen-backed, 170 x 22 cm Bayliss, originally from Suffolk, produced this wet-plate panorama in 1875 from the 27-metre-high tower of Holtermann's home in Lavender Bay. Using a large-format camera with a 100-inch telefoto lens the view was captured on two single negatives, each measuring 90 x 150 cm and were the largest photographs taken by the collodion process. The example owned by the Art Gallery of New South Wales measures 22 x 141 cm. Sold with all faults not subject to return. (2)

*Fraser (James Baillie). Assemblage of Hillmen, Bheem ke Udar, Crossing the Touse [and] View of the Country from Urshalun Teeba, published Messrs. Rodwell and Martin, 1820, togther four aquatints by R.Havell & son, contemporary hand colouring, trimmed to image on three margins, each approximately 440 x 580 mm, mounted, framed and glazed Abbey Travel 498. Four plates from 'Views in the Himala Mountains'. James Baillie Fraser (1783-1856) was a Scottish traveller and artist, who, following the end of the war with Nepal in 1815 travelled with his brother William to the Himalayas, spending two months exploring the region. They became the first Europeans to reach the sources of the Jumna and Ganges rivers. Tutored by the artist George Chinnery, Fraser was encouraged by William Havell to publish his sketches upon his return to Calcutta. Fraser's account of his travels was separately published as 'Journal of a Tour through Part of the Snowy Range of the Himala Mountains, and to the Sources of the Rivers Jumna and Ganges'. (4)

Autograph letter signed from the merchants Wills and Leigh, Naples, 18 October 1768, to Sir George Pocock of Charles Street, Berkeley Square, London, (altered to Twickenham), informing him that in a month or so a ship will sail to London with 'such things of yours as may be ready, hoping all Fabris's will be finished and part of Ricciandelli's' but sickness prevented them from working, some of D'Hancarvilles works will be ready but not Morghens, other information including that Mr and Mrs [William] Hamilton are in the country and that Captain French has arrived from Newfoundland and sends his respects, minor worm tracks, 2 pp. with integral address leaf, 4to, together with an autograph letter signed from Thomas Palmer Ball, Antwerp, 14 September & Lille, 17 September 1788, to his mother giving details of his travels, '...there is a very large river to this town [Antwerp] but no trade or shipping', and later from Brussels, '...it's the fashion in this country for dogs to draw goods about, yesterday we met nine abreast drawing a great barrel', heavy spotting and dust-soiling on folds, 2 pp., 8vo, plus a manuscript agreement in Italian, between Antonio Rosso and Signori Waylen, 26 April 1836, for conveyance of Mr Waylen and his companions from Rome to Florence, and the provision of food and lodging for 'trente scudi', a little age toning, 1 page, oblong 8vo The first letter, recording the Grand Tour and the acquisition of pictures and antiques, makes reference to the artists Pietro Fabris (fl. circa 1756-1804), the view painter employed by Sir William Hamilton, and Gabrielle Ricciardelli (fl. 1743-1768), landscape and marine painter. A manuscript book compiled by Thomas Pike, 1789, 276pp. of musical notation and lyrics for twenty-eight hymns and anthems, written in a neat hand, with contents leaves at both front and rear, titles include: 'Anthem taken out of the 106th Psalm by Mr. Henry Purcell'; 'A Christmas Ode'; and 'The 4th hym taken from the 96th Psalm by Jackson', offsetting throughout, a few spots mainly to first and last leaves, contemporary reversed calf, rubbed, spine with some loss and fraying at both ends, front cover with central red morocco label, gilt-decorated and lettered, 4to, together with a similar book, comprising 96 pages of musical notation and lyrics for various pieces, including: 'The Sylph'; The New Highland Laddie'; 'The Hungarian Waltz'; 'Weber's Celebrated March'; and 'Rule Britannia', offsetting throughout, front pastedown with ink inscription 'Mary Pyke February 10th 1821', contemporary calf, front joint cracked, spine deficient, 4to (2)

New Zealand Maori Rugby Team. An autograph team sheet for the team touring New Zealand, Australia, Ceylon, France, England, Wales and Canada, 1926-27, signed on board the ship carrying them to Canada, 10 January 1927, a total of 29 signatures and 1 set of initials 'S.J.', including autographs of the Captain M.P. Barclay, Vice Captain R. Bell and manager H. Harris, signed in three slightly uneven rows on a sheet of light blue paper and pasted into an autograph album of the period, containing unidentified autographs and watercolours on 10 further pages, a further 14 autographs of Japanese naval officers signed and identified on HIMS Katori letterhead, 4 pp., 8vo, loosely inserted, contemporary decorative synthetic boards, oblong 8vo Now called the Maori All Blacks, they began playing in 1888 as the New Zealand Natives, recording their first national win against Ireland (13-4) later that year in Dublin. They were the first team to wear the famous black jersey and the side was originally conceived as an all-Maori selection. The team has beaten many international sides, including the British and Irish Lions, England and Ireland. (1)

Howard in 1839, containing pen and ink and watercolour diagrams of plant parts, and an inventory of property at Decker Hill, belonging to the late William Botfield, 1851 (5)
