The model is recognizable by its lack of date feature, allowing the dial to have a well-balanced design. Early examples of the 5513 featured a glossy black dial with gilt text, and in the mid-1960's, Rolex started producing the reference with a matte dial and white printing. These dials featured the depth rating with meters indicated first '200m=660ft', and towards the end of the 1960's, Rolex began producing dials with the depth rating that indicated feet first. The matte dial reference 5513 appeals to vintage Rolex enthusiasts for its dial symmetry, durability, and place in Rolex history as inspiration for future Submariner models. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Wilkinson (Norman) The Lure [Salmon about to take fly]; Trout Fishing on the River Coquet, two works, etchings with drypoint, both signed in pencil, platemarks each approx. 225 x 300 mm (8 3/4 x 11 3/4 in), minor surface dirt and light toning, the former with exposure lines within margin from previous mount, unframed, [circa 1920s] (2) Literature:Beazley, David, Images of Angling. Three Centuries of British Angling Prints, Creel Press, 2010, cf. nos. 333-337⁂ Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971) is largely known as a marine and naval artist, but he was also a prolific illustrator of salmon and trout fishing. The artist was introduced to fly-fishing at a young age, and was already a regular spring visitor to Scotland in the years before 1914, and he resumed his salmon fishing trips after the war. It wasn't until 1920 that Wilkinson, on the suggestion of his art dealer friend Robert Dunthorne, took his artist's materials with him to Scotland with the serious intention of producing some angling etchings. No catalogue of Wilkinson's total output of etchings has been published, the great majority of it was produced in three angling books, the first published in 1924, then 24 plates in An Angler's Anthology, published in 1930, and another 24 plates in Chalmer's A Fisherman's Angles, 1931. Beazley has suggested that the total number of Wilkinson's angling etchings amounts to 71, of which at least 45 were offered for sale as single sheet prints in signed limited editions. [op. cit. Adams (Douglas), After. Salmon Fishing, photogravure, printed chine collé, platemark 490 x 715 mm (19 1/4 x 28 1/8 in), sheet 530 x 750 mm (20 7/8 x 29 1/2 in), under glass, some fine spotting and surface dirt, faint damp-stain to the upper right edge, framed, published by Thomas McLean, 1892Literature:Beazley, David, Images of Angling. Three Centuries of British Angling Prints, Creel Press, 2010, no. 306⁂ W. Douglas Adams (1853-1920) was a prolific and popular sporting artist, but an elusive personality about whom rather little is known. The present lot was the first of Adam's angling pictures to be reproduced, and was undertaken by the process of photogravure on a rather large scale. The features of the photogravure method especially suit Adam's work, in that they manage to convey the drama of the weather; for Adams, fishing in the Highlands invariably meant that there was a hint of menace in the sky.

Wilkinson (Norman) Spring Fishing on the Ore; Trout Fishing, Loch Awe; Trout Fishing, three works, etchings with drypoint, all signed in pencil, the first mentioned platemark 225 x 300 mm (8 3/4 x 11 3/4 in), the other two each approx. 160 x 220 mm (6 1/4 x 8 1/2 in), good margins, under glass, minor surface dirt and light toning, framed, [circa 1920s] (3) Literature:Beazley, David, Images of Angling. [op. cit. Beazley, p. 218]

Lot 122

Medieval Templar pendant. Circa 13th century AD. Silver, 8.20g. 27.18 mm.  An open-work silver composite pendant, formed of a wide band decorated with a central rib dividing a row of pellets on each side. The suspension loop is attached at the join of the ring. At the centre there are two perforated discs forming open-work cross pattee motifs, one front and one back, held in place by a thick round section bezel. The cross within a circle symbolises the Mark of Cain and was worn by the Templar knights."In Ancient Summer, those who wore the “Mark of Cain”, showed they were protected by the “Lord” from the “wrath” of “Jehovah”. It symbolised they had left the spiritual path in life of taking from others and had embraced the path of giving to others. Early in the 12th century, the first Knights Templar uncovered Jesus’ Truths from the Ark of the Covenant. There, they found a wealth of spiritual information and techniques including, but far from being limited to, the Light Body Activations and the “True Cross of Christianity”. It is therefore no surprise that the Knights Templar received from Pope Eugenius III in 1146 the “Mark of Cain” as a symbol for their knight order. In the symbol of the Knights Templar’s Red Cross the circle has been dropped and the design stylized to display the “croix pattée” which contains many geometrical properties and esoteric secrets."
