Three Chinese glass and gilt metal mounted hat finials, 20th century, comprising two opaque paint glass examples of the second rank, engraved with two Shou medallions, the mount cast with a bat and leaves, the other mount with Shou symbols, and an opaque finial of the fourth rank with filigree knop, the gilt metal base with engraved characters in roundels, height 5.7 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The pink example is loose in its fitting however it appears to be all intact. There is a very small chip to the aperture rim however this is hidden by the fitting. There are some lines in the body but these are not cracks or fractures but are within the glass itself. Such lines are visible in the other pink example. Similar to the first pink example the second pink example has a small chip around the rim of the aperture. There is also a small bruise mark to the centre of the body between the two Shou symbols. Otherwise it is very much intact and free from any further faults. The blue finial appears to be in good order throughout with no obvious faults. The metalwork on all finials is good and with no obvious faults. Two of the finials have engraved character marks to the underside metal mount.

A.J. (Joey) Carter-Wood, (British 1890-1915), "Lingering Sun", a view of the Solway looking towards Criffel, signed, oil on canvas, inscribed to Stretchers verso "A.J. Carter-Wood", also indistinctly inscribed in pencil and with applied plaque for James Lanham Artists Colorman (sic) St Ives, Cornwall, mounted with a contemporary frame, 102 cm x 66.5 cm. NOTE - A talented artist who at the age of 25 volunteered his services in the Coldstream Guards under the rank of Lieutenant. He was in France only a matter of weeks before he received a fatal wound engaging in trench warfare at a battle at La Bassee. He is exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Walker Art Gallery and Lakes Art Society. Known as Joey to friends he was born in Newlyn, Cornwall in 1890, and was working under the influence of Stanhope Forbes (leader of the Newlyn School). The Carter-Wood's owned Artillery Place Brewery for several generations which in 1891 was purchased by Watneys and promptly closed down. It is then that the family relocated from the south of England to the Lake District, eventually residing at Skinburness Tower, Silloth. His sister Florence Carter-Wood has a very unhappy union with Sir Alfred Munnings. She was his first wife and so unhappy at the union and being parted from her secret lover she tried to commit suicide on the night of her honeymoon. This attempt was unsuccessful; however two years later took her life by swallowing cyanide (see illustration).
A Turkish carpet, principal colours green, blue, red and beige. +/- 310 cm x 260 cm. CONDITION REPORT: In our opinion the carpet probably dates from the first quarter of the 20th century. It is generally in fairly good condition the only issue being wear to the fringes on both ends which should be visible from our images. The worst affected area is in the middle of one side where the fringe wear has affected the edge of the carpet border. The right hand bound edge of the carpet is in good order. The left hand has some wear to the loop stitched edge in a few isolated areas. The wear is fairly universal although it is slightly flatter on the centre rectangular panel. We cannot see any signs of significant perishing or any holes either current or imminent. The colours are generally strong with only minor fading to one corner.
Beryl Cook 1926-2008, "Musicians", colour print, signed in pencil, limited edition No. 396 of 650, published by Alexander Gallery Publications Limited, image 42 cm x 42 cm. CONDITION REPORT: First class condition. Well mounted and glazed and with pine frame with some minor marks and scratches but no significant issues.
A gentleman's stainless steel Omega De Ville quartz wristwatch with leather strap. CONDITION REPORT: The watch appears to be in first class condition. The watch glass is in very good order. The case is extremely clean with no significant scratches or marks. This is a quartz watch and is not currently running. It may well require a replacement battery. The strap is in very good order although not original. The watch does not have a traditional winding crown it is a button to the side of the case. Presumably this would advance the hands however with there being no power we cannot do this.
