A 19th Century plaster bust of Lord Arthur Hervey 1802-1894, Bishop of Bath and Wells, bearded, wearing a cravat and buttoned waistcoat, 76cm high/Provenance: Sotheby's Ickworth House Sale 11th and 12th June 1996, lot 97/Note: Lord Hervey was the fourth son of the first Marquess of Bristol, great grandson of John, Lord Hervey, writer and Lord Privy Seal 1696-1743. Lord Arthur was a tennis player at Cambridge and winner of the Silver Racket Championship 1829, 30 and 31, portrait by Sir W M Blake Richmond, Wells Town Hall and Ickworth, tomb by Thomas Brock, Wells Cathedral Condition Report: Waistcoat with noticeable chip to one border. Other overpainted chips and with chips and paint loss to the socle.

Mordan, London 1879, carved as the head of Ally Sloper, on a raised circular base, set with glass eyes, the underside with ribbed decoration, height 9.2cm. Alexander "Ally" Sloper is the fictional character of the comic strip Ally Sloper. He is one of the earliest comic strip characters and is regarded as the first recurring character in comics. Red-nosed and blustery, an archetypal lazy schemer often found "sloping" through alleys to avoid his landlord and other creditors, he was created for the British magazine Judy by writer and fledgling artist Charles H. Ross, and inked and later fully illustrated by his French wife Ιmilie de Tessier. The strips, which used text narrative beneath unbordered panels, premiered in the 14 August 1867 issue of Judy, a humour-magazine rival of the famous Punch.

An Edwardian double ended retractable paint brush, by S. Mordan and Co, London date letter worn, retailed by C. Roberson and Co cylindrical form, each end with a slide-out paint brush, length closed 11.7cm, approx. weight 0.7oz. The artist's materials suppliers C. Roberson and Co. was started in 1810 in London. Charles Roberson chose the central London location of Long Acre because of its proximity to the artistic quarter of London and to the home of the Royal Academy, in Somerset House. The company went through a few location changes in the first half of the 19th Century but remained in Long Acre until 1937, when the business moved to new premises in Camden Town. Roberson moved to its present location in Holloway in 1987.
